Product Description

As Kelly prepares the worldwide release of her new album, she's riding another hit single and video, 'Breakaway,' which is quickly becoming one of the hottest songs at radio for the fall of 2004, as well as the setup track for this new record. With contributions from some of the biggest producers in music today (John Shanks, Max Martin, Clif Magness, Ben Moody), Kelly's new record will further broaden her base as a worldwide pop star. The publicity campaign surrounding the launch of this album, one of the most anticipated pop events of the year, will see Kelly everywhere leading into this holiday season.

Kelly Clarkson could have played her American Idol-propelled career much differently, languishing in the role of dippy ingénue or shunting her musical development by leaning too heavily on overnight stardom. Instead she dug in her heels and allowed good sense (or a good manager) to steer, and somewhere Simon Fuller and the rest of the TV gang ought to be smiling. Credit Breakaway, which couldn't be more aptly titled--the sophomore set represents a seismic split from the thin if pretty stuff debut Thankful set forth. Here we encounter Clarkson as superstar, with the humility that made her likable on the first disc tucked tightly under her arm. First single and leadoff track "Breakaway" topped the pop charts on arrival, and its rock-friendly thumps, dips, and rolls don't wear out their welcome; they blend, instead, into the firestorm of beats and guitars that is "Since U Been Gone," another shout-it-out rocker. Those songs set the tone for the rest of the disc in all its fury: The innocence is long gone, numbers including "Addicted" and "Hear Me" say collectively, and Clarkson's of a mind to kick it. The big, expressive voice ringed by the occasional high-pitch trill--the one that prompted millions to get behind her on Idol--doesn't dip entirely off the radar, though. On "Where Is Your Heart," and the stunning live closer "Beautiful Disaster," it's there in full force--a hint, maybe, that despite the wide, smart career step Breakaway represents, her fans come first. -Tammy La Gorce

I didn't really care for Kelly Clarkson's first album, but this one is definitely awesome.
Kelly carefully did her job while making this album, teaming up with some of the hottest songwriters in the business right now. (Avril Lavigne, Ben Moody, Chantal Kreviazuk, Raine Maida etc.), and in the end, you come out with a decent album. Many compare it to Avril's latest album, Under My Skin, which is a bit obvious because she teamed up with most of the same songwriters (including Avril herself).
There are a few filler tracks, like "Gone" "Walk Away" and "I Hate Myself for Losing You", but the rest of the album is amazing. Its properly titled "Breakaway" because she's breaking away from her crap that she released on her first album.
The reason why this album is so much better, is because Kelly took her time to get this album properly produced and written. I think they just rushed her first album, because they wanted to release something quickly from the "first winner of american idol".
all in all, don't let the fact that shes an American Idol winner trick u, this album is definitely awesome. I really like the bonus live track "Beautiful Disaster".

i really like how kelly changed her style of music to more rock. on 'thankful', kelly had alot more slow-er songs, and not alot of upbeat songs. the songs that were more upbeat (like miss independant) were pop-py. but on this album, she gives herself a whole new look, and genre of music. there are great rock songs (addicted, gone) and there are ballads that sound similar to what was on her previous album (like 'where is your heart?'). i was very impressed with this album, and i really like how kelly added the lyrics in the cover sleeve of the album, as opposed to her previous one, where she had, like, 5 page 'thank you's', and song credits. overall, a much better album than 'thankful'. 'breakway' satisfies, and makes you want to listen to it again and again.

This cd is not one of the greatest that I've ever owned, but it's decent. It's quite enjoyable, but I would not go on and rave about it. What makes me angry, however, is how people DARE to criticize music based on where they come from. It shouldn't matter where or how talent is found. Although the Idol franchise is cheesy and focuses on pop songs, it is undeniable that the people that enter the competition can actually sing. So don't go around making assumptions. If anything, I'd like to see if you can put out a better record. And yes, this message is directed to "Enough Already"

Many people thinks that everyone that comes from an idol is manufactured...maybe its true but except for Kelly Clarkson! She has an amazing voice that shines through all of her songs. She wrote half of the CD, including "Because of you" when she was 16. This singer has an enormous potential and this album is awesome! Everyone can find something they like, cuz there is rock, ballad and more pop songs. "Breakaway" is a MUST-HAVE!

This is a great CD. She has one of the best voices in the industry at the current time, and I would not be surprised if Miss. Clarkson got nominated for a couple Grammy's at the 2006 ceremony. The highlights include: Because of You, Addicted, Gone, Breakaway, Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, and Hear Me. An impressive sophomore album from this rising star.
