Mike Lamade will take you along as he stalks a huge bull moose in the Yukon and fights through a blizzard for a record book muley on the Colorado plains. Pope & Young whitetails will fall in Kansas, Illinois and Wyoming, and you'll wait with Mike in a ground blind in South Africa for elusive kudu, gemsbok, and wildebeest. In his 40 years of pursuing big game with his bow, Mike has hunted most of the United States and Canada and traveled to Africa eight times. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great for hunters, Mar 19 2008

This review is from: Breathtaking Bowhunts a Collection of Bowhunting Adventures (Paperback)
Mike Lamade has hunted the continents from North America to Africa. One thing that impressed me is he tells beginners to long time bowhunters to be responsible hunters. He says more than once "Do Not Shoot" unless the animal is presenting the proper shot angle for placement in the vital chest area behind the shoulder---do not shoot.

Sometimes people can become so excited about the hunt that they drawl back their bow and shoot. They may miss the area they should of hit, and the animal will wonder off. If not found the animal will die a slow death.
Mike has hunted just about every type of game that is allowed. He even went along with a friend who was hunting gators with a bow. While Mike was not hunting he was taken for a wild ride.

This book teaches you not only about the responsibility of bowhunting but the history. Angus Brown a professional bowhunter and outfitter in Africa was instrumential in getting bowhunting legalized in the USA.

I come from a family of hunters. My husband Larry has both bows and rifles. When I showed him Mike's trophy room his eyes opened wide and said: "I want to read this book when your are finished".

This book is great for all outdoor enthusiast.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Don't Have To Be A Bowhunter, May 13 2007

My husband read this book and even though he's not a hunter, he thought it was excellent! Mike's writing style paints a very visual picture of the action/location of each of his hunts. A very readable book.

Mike Lamade has hunted the continents from Norht America to Africa. One thing I was impressed by is he tells beginners to long time hunters to be responsible hunters. He says more than once "Do Not Shoot." Unless the animal is presenting the proper shot angle for placement in the vital chest area behind the shoulder---do not shoot.

Sometimes people can be so caught up in the hunt that they shoot not taking the time to wait for the proper shot. Then the animal will wonder off and if not found can die a slow death.. This book teaches you not only about the responsibilty of bowhunting but the history as well. Angus Brown is a professional bow hunter and outfitter in Africa. He was instrumental in getting bow hunting legalized in this country.

I come from a family of hunters. They only hunt for the meat. My husband Larry hunts with either a bow or rifle. When I showed him Mikes trophy room his eyes opened wide and he said, "I want to read this book when you are finished."

This is a great book for all outdoor enthusiast.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Reading, Oct 18 2011
By adventures of frugal mom - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Breathtaking Bowhunts a Collection of Bowhunting Adventures (Paperback)
I was recently given the opportunity to review Breathtaking Bowhunts by Mike Lamade. Let me first of preface this with hunting books are normally not the kind of books that I would read but as I have stated before this blogging adventure that I am on has opened me up to experience new things. I can honestly say without a doubt that I am glad I was given the chance to review this book. The basic premise of the book is about hunting but the underlying theme is that we all have to be patient for the things we want from life. If Lamade gave up the hunt every time he got discouraged there would be no book. I love how he describes the majestic beauty of the animals that he kills. I also like the fact that he is out to hunt not just for sport alone but he also uses the meat to feed his family.
I also like the fact that this book is compiled of short stories so if you don't have time to read a lot in one sitting you are able to read one and move on to whatever chore you need to do. Then when you pick up the book whether it be an hour, a day or a week later, you don't not have to rack your brain trying to remember what happened last. You can simply read about another adventure. And that is exactly what these are adventures, there is no malice or cruelty in this book. Lemande has a deep respect for the animals he hunts and is not cruel in his hunts.
