Not Your Average Toaster
Every Breville product begins with a simple moment of brilliance. The Breville die-cast toasters are for toast lovers and breakfast enthusiasts. Make the perfect piece of toast every time. White, wheat, sourdough, Cinnamon Raisin, English Muffins, frozen waffles, and bagels, you name it - you can toast it. Utilize the 'Lift and Look' feature and stop under cooking and burning your toast. Now with the Breville Die-cast toasters you can see how the browning is going, without stopping the toasting cycle. The toasting carriage lifts up automatically to let you view your food, and then returns down into the toasting for continued browning.
Designed with the consumer in mindThe Breville die-cast toaster features several consumer driven innovations to help you make the perfect piece of toast. The Breville 2 Slice Smart Toaster has an internal smart chip that lowers bread into the toasting slots with a single touch and also regulates the toasting time. On the "a bit more" setting bread is automatically lowered for additional toasting time. The auto lift and look feature automatically raises the bread carriage during toasting without canceling or resetting the cycle. This enables you to view, and if necessary, cancel the browning cycle at any time.
Levers Are a Thing of the Past
The die-cast toaster uses a motorized carriage system so simply place your favorite type of bread into the slots and press the 'Toast" button. You can also use the 'Bagel' and 'Defrost' buttons to select the perfect option for your food of choice. The die-cast toaster features and LED toasting indicator so you can see the progress of your food. You can also adjust the degree to which you want your toast browned with the variable browning controls.
Breville toasters are a striking addition to any kitchen countertop. The body of the toaster is carefully constructed of die-cast metal, as are the button controls and power level sliders. The toaster features the Breville Assist Plug, making it safe and easy to store and take out the toaster at a moment's notice. The toaster also features hidden cord storage to help de-clutter your counter or kitchen cabinet.

From the Manufacturer
The Breville 2 Slice Smart Toaster has an internal smart chip that lowers bread into the toasting slots with a single touch and also regulates the toasting time. On the "a bit more" setting bread is automatically lowered for additional toasting time. The auto lift and look feature automatically raises the bread carriage during toasting without canceling or resetting the cycle. This enables you to view, and if necessary, cancel the browning cycle at any time. The LED panel illuminates according to the selected setting on the variable browning control. The display acts as a toasting progress indicator, counting down how long is left in the toasting cycle. The toaster beeps when the cycle is complete. Made of brushed die-cast metal the exterior wipes clean with a soft cloth. The heating element is 900 watts. Two wide slots accommodate waffles, bagels or toast. Defrost, reheat, bagel and cancel functions. Complete with a Breville assist plug for easy cord removal and cord wrap storage underneath.

After researching on my problem, I found that several other people have had the exact same problem. I think that with the premium price this toaster is commanding, such poor reliability is simply unacceptable.
I would certainly not recommend this product to anyone.
I bought the Breville based on the mostly positive reviews here and on amazon.com. It does my toast to perfection - 12-grain bread done on the maximum setting turns out perfectly toasted both sides every time, nice & crunchy, without the stripes from the elements. I was surprised - no flipping required. If I have one quibble, it's that the slots could be slightly longer to accommodate larger slices. It appears to be sized towards commercial bread slices (which are getting smaller all the time) so either I start making smaller loaves, or clip the ends off the slices.
I've never had a toaster that would toast my bread-machine bread properly. My previous toaster was hit & miss. My toaster oven sort of does the job but it's slooooow and involves flipping the toast over to get both sides evenly toasted and even then, it's not really "toasted". Toasters all seem to have a problem with home-made bread - it's more dense and moist than the commercial product, more thickly sliced and takes longer to toast evenly. Every toaster I've had required the maximum setting. So far, the Breville seems up to the job.
The toaster is cool to the touch on the outside, which I think is an underrated plus. Really good option for doing bagels, but for a $100 toaster, I'd expect it.
After a few months, I had a light go out so it is difficult to tell how long it has to go during the final minute... then a few months later, another went.
Six months later, I tried popping the darkness level all the way to the top, and found another couple of LEDs that have burnt out as well.
If I can take the light issue away, then it does the job well for me. Who knows, maybe I just got the lemon here, but I was just a bit scared off with all the other Breville hardware/support issue runarounds to actually call and get the toaster replaced. Elements all work fine after a year.
What I truly like about this one is that the toasting is consistant.
the bit more function is brilliant and the led indicators are working really well.
It's been a couple months already and it is used daily by kids and adults and so far we are using it more often than ever because it toasts well without dehydrating the bread, making for wonderful toasts (i.e. the distance between the toasts and the burners is optimal, roasting the outside, drying the whole thing).
*** Update ***
Updating my review after some more use. As with many user I am now suffering from the right side staying stucked in the low position. Breville Customer Service took 15 days to answer my first email and only asked for information that was already in the email I sent (problem, and toaster serial) they never ever replied to my (harsh but deserved) reply. To me this is a deal breaker for future Breville appliances. At this price point you should get 5 star customer service, not two weeks later didnot read your email.
Anyway self found the solution to the problem, which is electronical and thus should be considered a defect, you just need to unplug the toaster for 15 minutes.
Yup... you would assume that they could put that information on their website and save the customers a lot of trouble. Instead they will just ignore you.
Even though the toaster itself works perfectly and is the most even toasting toaster I used, I am lowering from 5 stars to 2. Items with a higher price point are expected to have a good customer service as well.

I used to really like this toaster, but it died on me after a couple of years (it became non-responsive). It is not a cheap toaster, I would expect it to last for a long time. Read morePublished 1 month ago by B. Guenin
