We make smoothies nearly daily (if not twice daily) for the past 4 years using the Breville blender and it has worked like a charm every time. It has a great 'smoothie' button that pulses for about 1 minute and turns even large frozen strawberries into smoothie goodness. We've tried this with a some other blenders (Black and Decker comes to mind) and they have all failed miserably, even within the first week of use.

The only weakness is that the base needs to be completely disassembled (this is a multistep process) every once and a while to properly clean out gunk that builds up in the base.

We have also had occasional leaking issues, but I guess that would be the case for many blenders. Unfortunately, our last leak was fairly large and it appear that fluid got into the motor and may have gotten fried. Despite this, I still see a lot of value in this blender and will buy it again!

I am incredibly disappointed with this blender as a year and a month after it was purchased, it stopped working. I was at the time blending tomatoes, it made a horrible smell and stopped working. I was blending in batches and the amount in the blender wasn't over the 2 cup mark. I am disappointed as it is summer and I was really looking forward to making all sorts of cold soups which I can no longer do.

I do not recommend this blender at all and I suggest that you spend your money elsewhere, on something that will work after it's warranty has expired.

I also suggest you review the comments made on the USA Breville website as they are indicative of these sort of problems: [ ... ]

In short, this was a waste of money and now the broken blender is wasting space while I wonder if it is worth trying to fix.

My wife is the main user of this blender and she loves it. The motor is very powerful compared to our last blender. No leaks or any other flaws from what we can see so far compared to what you read about other Breville blenders. The cleaning is fairly easy. We use it mainly to puree soups and make smoothies and have not tried crushing ice yet. Styling wise we find it a little tall but can live with this and the stainless steel look fits in well with our other kitchen appliances. It's a little pricey and hope it will last a long time compared to our previous blender to make it worth the investment. We like the glass jar for cleaning and for the look. We own a breville juicer that is plastic which changed color over time and doesn't look good even though it works well. It is supposed to be BPA free but just makes you wonder if anything seeps into your drink (more a mental thing I think).
