Poorly made but cooks great,

This review is from: Breville Ikon Removable Plate Grill BGR400XL (Kitchen)
I am very disappointed with this grill. After many George Foreman's and sold on counter top grilled food I took the plunge on this unit.First disappointment - It has no power switch! You have to reach and pull the plug from the wall to turn it off. This is dangerous for a risk of burns if you have a small counter as the cord is short. Second disappointment - The stainless steel is extremely hard to clean and is discolored. No matter how much I scrub there is rust marks and grease is very hard to remove. Third disappointment - The stainless steel trim around the unit is only glued on and with use the glue melts and despite many attempts I cannot get the glue to hold again Fourth disappointment - The knobs have come off and I am Mr fix it but the have an extremely complicated articulated connector that would require taking the entire unit apart to fix. Fifth disappointment - The plates, while removable and can be placed in a dishwasher are made of a metal that severely pits in a dishwasher. They should have used a dishwasher safe material. Considering the price a fourth plate would be really nice so two plates are in the dishwasher and two are clean. Three plates, while designed for different cooking purposes are pretty much useless. Cooking, This take at least 5 minutes to warm up but when it is up to temp it cooks an awesome steak, fish, sandwich, what ever your imagination can create. No complaints here. It gets extremely hot and can burn your counter, I put in on my stove under my range hood. Kind of counter intuitive as I probably could judt use a cheap non electric stove griddle. It looks ugly and dirty, falling apart, but gets good and hot and grills a mean steak. The drip pan works fine as well to remove excess grease.

We have had this for 2 years. Works great on steak (boneless), pork, salmon, tuna steaks, paninis. No complaints, no problems of any kind. Temperature range is entirely sufficient for everything we've ever tried. Stainless steel finish is fine, knobs are fine, plates are fine. We are in the market again because our son went off with it to college. We have compared it to others and nothing else out there comes close. This was the first Breville product we ever bought, and we are getting the exact same one again. The only MINOR comment would be that the tabs on the back of the plates that hold them in place are rather sharp and will scratch the teflon if left stacked. Maybe don't do that.

Le Plate Grill BGR400XL est l'instrument de cuisson idéal pour ceux qui aiment des sandwichs délicieux et cuits à point. Il permet le retrait des plaques pour une nettoyage sans complication.
