5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff from a band that's going places, Dec 27 2007
By Em11th - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bridges (Audio CD)
This is a highly recommended CD from a band that is sure to go places. Their music is centered around a blend of acoustic guitar, softly reverberating, jangly electrics, and pleasing vocals that results in a fairly mellow pop sound, but with none of the blandness that afflicts so many of their contemporaries. There's plenty of emotional investment and driving beat to go around, along with musicianship in abundance shining through on each track. Even with their non-bombastic and reserved faintly psychedelic sound, these guys have clearly prayed at the altar of the rock gods. Their songs tend to have complex, non-standard structures, which is hard to pull off successfully, but they do it extremely well. There's no boring verse chorus verse chorus stuff here. My only minor quibble - they COULD rock a bit harder. It's clear they have it in them.

Something that sets them apart is the great male-female harmonies by lead singer Adam Kittredge with Antonia Freybe-Smith, who has one of the most beautiful voices out there in any genre, much less Indie Rock.

There aren't any weak tracks here, but first time listeners should check out Shadow Knows, All the People, Get it Right, Life's a Song, and Where Did You Go, the best songs in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bridges, Nov 8 2005
By JS - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Classical Modern - Ave Maria (Audio CD)
This is a great new full-length from Victoria's newest batch of rising stars. Layers of keyboards and percussion are drenched in sonic guitar feedback, offering a throwback to classic albums by the Who and Radiohead. Jets proves they can rock their way through upbeat songs such as the opening track, This Way, while also demonstrating their ability handle slower numbers with equal grace. If you appreciate the orchestral pop of Stars and the driving urgency of the Arcade Fire, do not miss this latest release from Jets Overhead - Bridges will quickly prove its worth to fans of contemporary and classical indie rock and pop alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome album, Feb 5 2006

I love this album. The band is from Victoria, which is where I live (that's cool.) I've heard the song 'seems so far' about a hundred times over the radio, when they were 'the zone's band of the month.' All the songs on this album are excellent. When I first got this album, I could listen to all the songs without skipping any, start to finish.
This is definitely an album you don't rock out to, very mellow and 'hypnotic' as critics put it.
Great album, and recommended.
