Product Description

From the Author

In my exploration of various theories and therapies as a clinician since 1973, I have been treated to an array of approaches--Gestalt, Rogerian, Transactional Analysis, NLP, hypnosis, Reevaluation Counseling, EMDR, cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, object relations theories, Jungian theories, various family therapies, energy therapies, and psychopharmacology. Although I have been eclectic in my treatment approach, I have consistently offered clients psychoeducational literature. I now pass these "therapy gifts" on to you so you can give your clients the gems of wisdom from so many theoretical orientations.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book March 18 2000
Format:Paperback
In my many years of practice I've never seen anything to compare with this book. It contains extremely well-researched information in a form which clients will find easy to read and utilize as a part of therapy.
I was impressed with the visual aids, assessment questionnaires and progress charts to help clients understand their problems and set up programs for change.
The range of problems covered in this book is so comprehensive that I've been able to find at least one helpful handout for each of my clients. I find the disk format especially helpful. I'm able to quickly print exactly what I want, and I can personalize the handouts any way I like. I have found that my clients develop a better understanding of their problems and begin to work on change more quickly when I give them these handouts at the beginning of therapy. I think this is a wonderful resource for both therapist and client!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Helpful to My Clients Feb. 27 2002
Format:Paperback
Cohen-Posey has packed this book and disc with a great deal of useful information which, although very helpful to a professional, is not at all helpful to my clients. I deal with college students who are reluctant to do yet more "homework". The handouts presented here are so full of information that one senses they might need a several hours just to comprehend the directions for the assignment. Additionally, the layout of the exercises is awful -- not enough white space and attractive lettering to invite someone to dig into the assignment. Sounds very shallow, yet layout design is very important to consider. All in all a good book for very motivated private practice clients ( a rarity!); not practical or useful for traditional-age college students.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish my therapist had this book! March 10 2000
By D. Neal
Format:Paperback
I've always been dismayed that few therapists provide "homework" or food for thought in between sessions. The handouts in this book are terrific for helping clients help themselves. Written in simple, readable language, with easy-to-follow charts and exercizes, this is a book that no therapist should be without

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat dated Dec 19 2009
Format:Paperback
I found the content of this book to be somewhat dated. It reflected "old school" thinking, as opposed to somewhat of the newer, postmodern or even more current dialectical behaviour or cognitive behaviour processes that are evident in more current texts. I actually sent it back, as I would be more comfortable designing my own worksheets based on more current, evidence-based content. That being said, the way in which the information was structured was useful. Moreover, to have handouts which one could whip off a photocopier to give to a client would be a real gift.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrid recommendations for clients! June 30 2010
By Amanda
Format:Paperback
I am appalled by some of the things these worksheets suggest. If your child is having a tantrum, try mirroring him/her???? How immature! It also talks about non-violent restraints. It talks about matching the child's poor attitude by back talking him/her getting the parents to use their sassiest voice???
If the therapist cannot trust the recommendations that the handouts have, what use are the handouts??? I like the concept and the organization but the research and recommendations are out of date! I am returning this book!
