"a collection to end all collections ~ The British Invasion",
By
This review is from: British Invasion: 1963-1967 (Audio CD)
Hip-O Records presents fifty-four hits that became all time classics from "The British Invasion", featuring tunes that dominated the scene in America during the swinging sixties ~ there has never been another time like this ~ after this invasion the music industry changed and never looked back. What a line up we've got and the performances are complete and classic ~ The Bachelors, The Beatles, Chad & Jeremy, Cilla Black, Eric Burdon & The Animals, Donovan, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Fortunes, Freddie & The Dreamers, Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames, Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders, The Hollies, The Honeycombs, Engelbert Humperdinck, Tom Jones, The Kinks, Billy J. Kramer with the Dakotas, Los Bravos, Lulu, Manfred Mann, The Merseybeats, The Merseys, The Mindbnders, The Moody Blues, The Move, Peter & Gordon, Procol Harum, The Searchers, The Seekers, The Silkie, The Small Faces, The Spenser Davis Group, Dusty Springfield, Cat Stevens, The Swinging Blue Jeans, Traffic, The Tremeloes, The Troggs, The Walker Brothers, The Who, The Yardbirds and The Zombies ~ many cues for the first time are heard as they were meant to be heard, with all digital remastering ~ once again we hear the classic sounds that brought nations together under one banner and changed the course of history through music...gotta love it! Total Time: 3-CD-Set ~ Hip-O Records 14852 ~ (3/02/2004)

Great Songs + Great Sound = Great Value,
By A Customer
This review is from: British Invasion: 1963-1967 (Audio CD)
In response to the music fan in NC who recommends the Rhino Brit Invasion series; you're right, that's a very comprehensive series, but that box set and 6 of the 9 single discs are out of print. Buying them at today's posted prices here on Amazon (used and new) will set you back a cool $378.At less than ten percent of that cost, this box seems like a much more reasonable purchase for most music fans. While not definitive or exhaustive (I don't think it's trying to be), this set is a fun romp through a unique time in music history. Like the best compilations or soundtracks, it puts you right back in a time and place. On top of that, the sound is excellent and the booklet is informative. All in all, a good value.

More like a Scouting Party,
By A Customer
This review is from: British Invasion: 1963-1967 (Audio CD)
This 3 CD set is too limited. It's more like a scouting party than a full blown invasion. A better choice would be the 9 volume "The British Invasion: The History of British Rock" from Rhino. There are 20 cuts on each CD and is way more comprehensive. If you are simply looking for some of the early British groups this one is marginally passable, but for the best in-depth compilation go for the Rhino set.
