Steve Harris, of course, is the bassist/main songwriter in the mighty Iron Maiden.
British Lion is his first "solo" effort.
This album is very underwhelming.
The production is small, garage-y, claustrophobic, and dull. The mix is suitable (remarkably, since Kevin "Caveman" Shirley handled this portion of the album, and I really dislike that man's general producing skills). The rhythm guitar sound is thin and lacks any sort of crunch or grit.
The songs? Well written if not boring.
But the biggest offence of the thing? The singer. The man has a kind and melodic voice, but he also has zero depth, strength or, well, balls. Steve, what were you hearing, my man?!
Overall, this CD is for Maiden fanatics who require every Maiden-related item be in their collection only. After several spins this disc will find a home in my vast CD collection ... and likely not come out for air much at all.
