It's too much EDM for a Britney Spears album. There is really nothing personal about it, it is an attempt to show a softer side (at times) and frankly, I don't care for it. Britney Spears is pop, not EDM, and it shows, especially when half of the songs of the album is pure synths and heavy bass. I thought that Femme Fatale was getting to a point where there was too much EDM, but there is absolutely no comparison. I do like some of the tracks and the EDM is fine at times. I do like "Tick Tick Boom", I like the heaviness of the beat and I can rock to it. But this feels like a lack of effort by the Britney Spears team, it feels forced and was just thrown together (which seems to be a trend about Britney Spears these days.) I really wanted Britney to come out with a POP album, and I don't even care about her having fixed vocals for the most part as long as it isn't extremely visible.
This is certainly not her best work, and that is because will.i.am EP'd the album. Will.i.am is not that good, and he defecated all over this album with his simple synth rhythms that were not needed nor wanted. Blackout-Femme Fatale were club bangers because they weren't just emphasized synths that will.i.am spent 5 minutes on the computer. It would also be nicer if Britney actually promoted her album and PERFORMED some of her songs to get people interested, there has not been a single performance of Work B*tch and her interviews are boring and repetitive, it certainly doesn't get me interested in this album.
Nonetheless, I do like some of the tracks on this album. Alien is interesting, not gonna lie, and alot of the EDM tracks are worth a listen, but it gets repetitive...quickly. Perfume was good for a day, Til It's Gone & Body Ache are ok, Chillin' With You is not a Britney Spears track (plain and simple), It Should Be Easy is atrocious (ft. will.i.am of course) it almost sounds like will.i.am ft. Britney. I do not feel connected to a single track on this album to the level I did with the last 3 albums and that is disappointing, but that didn't stop me from listening and jamming to this album.
I would honestly recommend giving it a listen and judge for yourself. I personally feel like this is a weak attempt with a lack of effort and really crappy producers (ergo will.i.am). But that doesn't mean that there are some decent tracks that I would like to hear in a club or blast in my car.
