Surprised by the positive reviews- Brody was a bust!

I love western romance and looked forward to reading my first Emma Lang book...what a disappointment! The lead male Brody is a Texas Ranger but in my opinion was a weak, indecisive one. He is shown up by the female lead Olivia in their first dangerous encounter and he continues to be distracted by the fact that she is a female. Olivia is smart and brave but is also a horny, nagging shrew and it got old real fast! The writing is choppy, the language is crude and seems gratuitous since it lends nothing to the story. The situations they find themselves in are poorly written and are unrealistic. Case in point...after Olivia has just killed two men for the first time with the resulting blood and gore landing all over Brody, he has barely had a chance to wipe the brain matter off his face before she starts kissing him! Gross.... She is mean and hateful one minute, then tries to jump his bones the next... what the heck? There is very little nuance in their relationship and the character development is weak. I may be in the minority with this review, but you got to call them as you see em and Brody was a bust. I think I'll just stick with Linda Lael Miller and Bobbi Smith if I want a good, solid western romance.

All the current reviews say it all so I won't try to re-say it in different words. Brody is a wonderful 2nd installment to the Circle Eight series - the reader gets a real feel for life in those dangerous but exciting times. Now I wait "patiently" for the 3rd book in this series which will be Caleb's story. It will go on pre-order as soon as possible. Thanks you, Ms Lang!
