5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to Buddhism for the totally uninformed., Sep 5 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Buddha: A Beginner's Guide (Paperback)
Amazon has the title wrong. The picture is correct, though my copy has a different cover. My copy has a head shot of the reclining Buddha.

The title of this book is "Buddha A Beginner's Guide" by Gillian Stokes

I'm a white midwestern USA person born into a protestant family and culture who's been a Buddhist since the early eighties when I first discovered the Dharma.

This is a great little book, for myself to review basic concepts, and to give to others as an introduction. It's very short and clear.

The word definitions are nice. All these years I've never really known what the word "vihara" means. Even though I was married in one and have been going to various viharas for years.

I'm sending this book off to be passed around my friends now. With 87 pages and pictures, it's not threatening.
