Book Description

Dec 2 2010 Motorbooks Workshop

The Mazda Miata is one of the most popular sports cars on the road today. In production for more than 20 years, the Miata’s popularity has grown, and the number of aftermarket components available to the Miata enthusiast has grown, too. This immense selection of parts has made it difficult for many would-be modifiers to choose the proper combination that will help them reach the goals they have set for their two-seaters.

Author and Miata expert Keith Tanner has been modifying, repairing, building, and racing Miatas for years, and he will guide you through how to best modify your car to suit your needs, starting with an explanation on how everything works and how the various parts will interact. You'll not only learn what upgrades will help you reach your goals, but also how to adjust or modify what you have to make your car work at its best. From autocross to cross-country touring, the Miata can do it all. Keith Tanner tells you how to make it happen!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some good tips Jan 23 2012
Format:Paperback
While many tips are available on any Miata forum page I did find some helpful items, especially on clutches and axel ratios.

Some things are obvious, like adding a turbo charger and cold air induction so don't expect a lot.

The paper and pictures are of top quality and very clear. Worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars The capstone to Keith's Miata trilogy Nov 20 2010
By Richard
Format:Paperback
An excellent book, capping off Keith's trilogy of Miata-related books.

Building on the "Miata 101" of Find It, Fix It, Trick It, and the projects aspect of Performance Projects, this book explains the "why" of what your Miata does and the "how" of how to get out of your Miata what you want.

Very well written, and easy to understand...with the wealth of knowledge that Keith brings to the Miata world through his experiences in racing and working at Flyin' Miata.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! Nov 30 2010

If you're a miata enthusiast and are interested in any type of performance modification to a miata, you'll find this book very informative. There is a LOT of information there. It's easy reading and includes lots of detailed photographs and diagrams. This book is not a step-by-step guide to perform certain modifications, but illustrates WHY and HOW a modification can be done. The content will help the reader better understand what the modification actually does (the benefits, tradeoffs, when a modification is a good idea and NOT a good idea).

Overall, a very good book to own for any performance oriented miata owner. Two thumbs up!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a how to but good read May 25 2012
By Mx5NB - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
There is no "how to" info in this book. It simply takes you through mechanics 101. There is very good info, and even some product comparisons. I didn't really think that it was worth $15, but I'm not completely disappointed. I am willing to check out the other books this author offers because he does a very good job of relaying fairly complex info. If you are new to mechanics this is a good read, if you know what the basics of an engine are and what they do skip to a more involved book. This book will be in the used bin soon enough.
