Accounting students must know how to develop, audit, and use accounting systems so the information contained within them can then be used by managers and decision makers. This textbook teaches students how to perform this role using Microsoft Access 2002, a component of the Microsoft Office XP Professional Suite. Once students are comfortable with the Windows operating system, they receive a solid introduction to database principles and theory, and valuable hands-on experience in constructing accounting systems.
About the Author
Jim Perry is a Professor of Management Information Systems at the University of San Diego School of Business. He is the author of over sixty-five textbooks and trade books and over a dozen articles on computer security, database management systems, multimedia delivery systems, and chief programmer teams. Jim is a charter member of the Association for Information Systems. He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Purdue University. Jim has worked as a computer security consultant to various private and governmental organizations including the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He was a consultant on the Strategic Defense Initiative ("Star Wars") project and served as a member of the computer security oversight committee.
Gary Schneider is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Information Systems at the University of San Diego School of Business. The author or co-author of 31 books, Gary has written more than 70 research papers on accounting, electronic commerce, and information topics. His work has appeared in a number of journals including the IS Audit & Control, Interfaces, and the Journal of Information Systems. Gary is active in the American Accounting Association and has served as editor of its Accounting Information Systems and Technology Reporter. He has provided training and consulting services to a number of major clients, including, the Gartner Group, Gateway Computer, Honeywell and Qualcomm. In 1999, he was named a fellow of the Gartner Institute. Gary holds a PhD in accounting systems from the University of Tennessee, and MBA in accounting from Xavier University, and a BA in economics from the University of Cincinnati. He is a CPA and practiced public accounting in Ohio for fourteen years before undertaking his academic career.
