2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, Aug 28 2000
This review is from: Burgers 'n Fries 'n Cinnamon Buns: Low-Fat, Meatless Versions of Fast Food Favorites (Paperback)
Intrigued by the title, I decided to try out some of the recipes. Making tasty "junk food" without meat or eggs sounds like an almost impossible feat, and unfortunately I think that it is.

I cannot complain about the layout of the book; although short, the recipes are well organized and easy to follow. I just personally found the results disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even non-vegetarians will like these recipes, Jun 14 2000
This review is from: Burgers 'n Fries 'n Cinnamon Buns: Low-Fat, Meatless Versions of Fast Food Favorites (Paperback)
I'm not a vegetarian, but I wanted some variety -- healthy variety -- in my diet. I'm so glad I bought this book. It lives up to its title by providing low-fat meatless recipes for "junk food" such as cinnamon buns and tacos and pancakes.

I'm not a very good cook, either. But I was able to follow these recipes without any trouble. I'm glad I found this book while cleaning house. Maybe I can shock my aunt by cooking a low-fat meal when she visits...

5.0 out of 5 stars Vegan fast food made easy, Jan 21 2012

This review is from: Burgers 'n Fries 'n Cinnamon Buns: Low-Fat, Meatless Versions of Fast Food Favorites (Paperback)
I have owned this book for more than 5 years, and use it often.
I follow a vegan lifestyle, so the the recipes in this book are a welcome addition to my collection. Most are quick, easy and use ingredients that are readily available, or easily substituted for. Recipes also include a caloric and nutritional analysis.
Because I like spicy food, I do "dress" the recipes a bit for my tastes. I might add a bit more spices than listed, or use fresh instead of dried herbs.
To lower the fat content, where possible, I saute in vegetable broth instead of frying in oil, or replace the oil in baked goods with unsweetened applesauce or mashed banana depending on the taste and texture I'm seeking.
If you're looking for the greasy fast food experience at home, this is not the book for you. But if you want tasty, cruelty-free fast food, lower in fat, give it a try.
