Burn Notice is Hot!,
By Home of the whopper (Edmonton, Alberta Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burn Notice: Season 1 (DVD)
Dynamic plots, a captivating arc, quirky characters, beautiful settings and you get to learn a lot of neat stuff too! We don't get USA Network in our area but I was lucky enough to catch a couple of episodes while flying on Air Canada and it was enough to get me hooked. I quickly bought the first two seasons. This series is about disenfranchised spy Michael Westen trying to figure out who "burned" him while working free-lance as a sort of latter day Edward Woodward (The Equalizer) to supplement his income. He is assisted by ex-girlfriend Fiona, a former IRA terrorist (palyed by Gabrielle Anwar -- best remembered as the girl who danced with Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman) and she looks terrifc! as well as retired Army Ranger Sam Axe, a lovable rogue who now supports himself as a gigolo, played by cult hero Bruce Campbell. The dysfunctional family, including the chain-smoking Sharon Gless as the mom, adds colour. This series is bursting with strong characters, a mesmerizing arc that keeps you guessing, beautiful setting, humour and a lot of useful information about how to conduct covert ops and blow up things. I watch it with my family, including my 14 year old daughter and 10 year old son.

Best new series in years.,
By Moe Sasseville "Moester" (Montreal, QC, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Burn Notice: Season 1 (DVD)
I just bought this series as I am a fan of Jeffrey Donovan. I was happy to see him finally get a leading role in a series. I was impressed by how good the series is. This series has a wonderful mix of humour and action that is supported by the entire class. Bruce Campbell and Gabrielle Anwar are both scene stealers. This series manages to stay away from clichés and has yet to get stale. A very worthy addition to anyone's DVD collection. I can't reccomend this series enough.

A very good show. The entire concept is wonderful: a spy is fired and consigned to spend the rest of his days in Miami by the Agency he once served. But Michael Weston decides not to take it sitting down and strives to find out who burned him and why. Broke and with no other job prospects, he helps citizens with the types of problems only a seasoned spy can solve. So, he takes on drug dealers, gun runners, and other bad guys using the skills he acquired in the field. For most of his capers, he's aided by his ex-girlfriend and an old friend both of whom were also in the spy game. Great fun! Great scripts! Perfect entertainment!
