From the Manufacturer

Sleek, simple and deadly effective-all with the push of a button. Then, like lightning, Scout Dx 1000 ARC acquires the target with built-in E.S.P. Turbo processor. ARC calculates compensated distance based on terrain angle to give you an accurate "shoots like" reading out to 99-Yard-even displaying 1/10th-Yard out to 199-Yard. With selectable Bow and Rifle Modes, each with their own specialized capabilities, it performs like two units in one. All housed inside a sleek, rubber-armored unit that's small enough to fit in your pocket, yet tough enough to withstand any weather or terrain.

I really like the unit, disappointing to find it at my local sporting shop for $60 less and there would have been no shipping charges, etc.
I spent an extra $80-$100 for lazy internet shopping from the couch..., ouch.

There's better out there. Oct. 20 2013
By Heroin - Published on Amazon.com
Color Name: Black
I purchased this unit around July of 2013. The fit and finish I would rate around 8/10. My unit's main targeting reticule is a circle with rough edges. This does not seem to be part of the design, but rather a lack of quality control. The main body of the unit is a mix of durable plastic and stippled rubber that gives you a good grip. It is compact, lightweight, and I would have no qualms getting it wet (I already have on moose and black bear hunts).

Optics: I would rate as a 6.5/10. I have used this in all light conditions and found that it does okay at dawn and dusk, but it is more apt for daytime hunting. At dawn I have had difficulty seeing through the optic, and as well at dusk. It seems best suited for daylight, overcast or not.

Rangefinder: I would rate as a 4.5/10. I have had difficulty getting this unit to go beyond 300 yards max in any setting (point mode, brush mode, or free mode) in varying atmospheres, elevations, times of day, and weather conditions. From bright blue skies, rain, or overcast this unit continually failed to go much beyond 300 yards. I have taken this on a total of twelve hunts in the short time I have had it, not to mention all the hikes with the dog around the woods, and was never able to get a reading over 320 yards no matter the target. Be it a large patch of brush, a hillside, or a giant red building, I couldn't push this unit to the supposed 1000 yard limit.

Overall: I was very excited for this rangefinder, I was able to get it at a great price, but I believe I will sell this unit and go with something else. It failed to range two moose and one black bear in my hunts. I was able to take a moose using it, and for that I am thankful, but it has consistently let me down. This unit for me get's a 5/10

Fast, accurate, light weight, easy to use. Nov. 19 2014

I haven't had an opportunity to range anything beyond 200 meters, but so far I love using it. Controls are easy and intuitive. Display is nice. MIL and MOA adjustments are a nice touch, but I haven't had an opportunity to see how accurate the calculations are with real-world use. It powers on quickly and calculates ranges very fast. Lightweight and small. Everything I was looking for in a range finder. I'm looking forward to stretching its legs beyond 500 meters.

Didn't work right. Lemon? Nov. 5 2014
By Lindsey - Published on Amazon.com
Color Name: Realtree AP Camouflage Verified Purchase
My husband took it out for elk season and couldn't get it to work! It only would range about 350 yards. Compared it to his buddies similar unit and ours was not accurate. Even spent a half hour on the phone, when they got service, with a bushnell rep. trying to get it to work. He suggested retuning it for another. Except I threw away all receipts as it was his birthday present. We still have the box and all that came with it. Can we still exchange it?

UPDATE: We exchanged the lemon and got 2 more, in the same box!! One had a speck in lense on the inside. The other worked awesome!!!!! Over all my husband is very happy with it, which in turn makes me happy. :-) We returned the one with the speck in the lense and are enjoying the new toy!

Bushnell Scout DX 1000 Rangefinder Oct. 9 2013
By 2hawk feathers - Published on Amazon.com

The instructions could have been written better to make it easier to understand therefore the 4 star rating. After going on-line to the bushnell.com site I could set it up with the rifle caliber & bullet weight I'll be using. I haven't used it yet on a hunt. I physically measure some objects in my yard and tested this rangefinder to see if it was reading correctly. It did readout correctly to the objects I was aiming it at. I bought this model bc it was rated waterproof and has the ARC feature for bullet drop. I know its made specifically for Archery or Rifle but, I'm going to try to use it on the golf course and hope it'll work for that too. The rangefinder itself looks well made and light weight. The 6X was clear enough for my old eyes.
UPDATE
I used it on the golf course and it could not read the flag pole, apparently the pole is too skinny. U can range it to the front of the green or if a group in front of U is on the green it'll pickup the person holding the flag and give U a accurate reading. I compared it to a buddies Bushnell Golf Range finder and it displayed the same yardage as my Scout DX. So it'll work on the golf course just do as I explained above. Now I'm getting the best BANG for MY BUCK for this multi-use range finder changing the rating to 5 STARS now.
