Book Description

Dec 8 2008
The Business Analyst (BA) plays an important role as liaison between business stakeholders and the technical team (software developers, vendors, etc.), ensuring that business needs are reflected in any software solution. Despite the importance of the job, there is currently no book specifically designed as a comprehensive reference manual for the working BA. The Business Analyst's Handbook solves this problem by providing a useful compendium of tools, tables, lists, and templates that BAs can use on-the-job to carry out their tasks. For example, you might be preparing for an interview session and use the book's checklist of interviewees to verify whether there is appropriate coverage of business stakeholders. Or you might be asked to review some diagrams and refer to the Glossaries of Symbols (organized by diagram type) for guidance. Or you may be asked to prepare textual requirements documentation and refer to the Business Requirement template for a list of artifacts and table of contents. Whatever your BA needs, the Business Analyst's Handbook places the necessary information right at your fingertips.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fairly good book to reference than anything else Dec 30 2008
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have read many Business Analyst like books and article, this is one definitely far better than others. It does tell you how to use the best practices per project and lets you use you own judgment as BABOK is concerned. One word of caution, the Table of Contents of this is out of sync especially the Template section (actually starts at Page 241 not 231), so you have to hunt the right pages to read up on something which is a very minor error. I would still recommend this book to anyone who needs quick reference to BA knowledge material.

Rely on Howard Podeswa's BA Handbook as a one-stop shop to decipher any new semantics you encounter in the definition of change requirements to be implemented in a software solution. The author cautions that it's not an easy read cover to cover...he's right! BUT, it's invaluable for reference. Say, you're new to UML and your Tech Analyst says: "Oh! boy...we'll need a polymorphic design to implement that lot." No prob...it's in there. You'll be able to say "Right!" and know why. Stick this book where you store your most important BA process assets.
