About the Author

Rosie Daykin, owner of Butter Baked Goods, is a passionate home baker who had dreamed of opening a bakery since she was six years old. After a successful career as an interior designer, she transformed her favorite hobby into a phenomenal success story when she opened Butter Baked Goods in 2007. The bakery now operates in two locations in Vancouver B.C., and Butter’s baked goodies can be found at over 300 retail locations across North America. Rosie lives in Vancouver with her husband, Paul; their daughter, India; two fat cats; and a small dog.

I have to admit I live in Vancouver and until a few months ago I had never been to the bakery on which this cookbook is based. I was treated to tea there by a friend and the food and every morsel of their baked goods were amazing.
I immediatley bought the cookbook and have been making delicious baked goods ever since.
The store in Dunbar area in Vancouver has high tea as well as baked goods for sale and the book reminds me of the shop itself -inviting and there is a great attention to even the smallest of details. As an example the book has a ribbon to hold your spot in the book and it has the "Butter" logo on it. The colours and lighting used to photograph the cakes, cookies and other treats makes you want to start baking right away. The first recipe I tried was the "Hello There, Doll Face" squares. The recipe only had six ingredients and the results were a pan of sqaures that were ridiculously easy to make and were so yummy that all the pieces disappeared very quickly. The recipe was made over and over at our home for the holidays and added to trays to give away to friends. I also made the "Chocolate Espresso Pound Cake" and it was so popular at work that I made small-sized bundt cakes for the office as Christmas gifts. The instructions are easy to follow and every recipe I have tried has turned out to look like the photogaphs in the book. The marshmallows (which is something the bakery is known for) are surprisingly simple to make if you follow the instructions. You will become a master baker and candy maker by using the recipes in this book and your friends will be very impressed. I am so happy with this purchase that I have ordered a dozen copies to give to friends for upcoming birthdays. I highly recommend this cookbook.

My daughter and I love to bake so when I saw an article about this book in my local newspaper I bought myself one. I loved the book so much I ordered one for my daughter for Christmas. Our local rink had a fund raising bake sale after Christmas and I made a lot of recipes from this book. The homemade marshmallows and graham wafers were a big hit along with the homemade you know what (oreo's). Love the pictures and easy to follow recipes.

This is my favorite bakery in Vancouver. They make the most sublime marshmallows and baked goods. I cannot rave enough about their raspberry and strawberry marshmallows. We make special trips from our home in the suburbs to the west side of Vancouver quite often just to go there.

The true test of the cookbook though would be if I could replicate the taste and texture of the store bought baked goods when making them myself. My favorite cookie is the Big Sugar Cookie at Butter. I am thrilled to say that I have made these from the recipe in the book several times now and they taste exactly like my favorite cookies at Butter. Next I am going to try the Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookie. And when I get really brave I am going to try making the marshmallows. These marshmallows are the marshmallows that they sell at Dean and Deluca in NYC as well as being the marshmallows that kicked off the new marshmallow trend.

The book is gorgeous! It is laid out beautifully and it has many pictures of the steps as well as of the finished products.

I cannot recommend this cookbook highly enough. Now if Maxie B in Greensboro, North Carolina would release a cookbook my sweet tooth fantasies would be complete!
