Boy, these guys had heart, drive, and talent: take a listen and walk into the wonder world that was the talented, creative, and very musical collection of personalities and characters that became, and unbecame, the "Byrds."

This review is from: Byrd Parts 2 (More Oddities,Cu (Audio CD)
This isn't the strangest curio CD that I have come across, but it is in the top-ten of weird & wacky.Billed as: "More Oddities, Curios, Rarities & Essentials by members of The Byrds, alone and together ~ 1962-1986." Only a fan-based Byrds company, {Raven Records, Australia} could locate and compile a collection such as this. We've got a strange brew here with, Les Baxter's Balladeers {with a young David Crosby, onboard}, The City Surfers??? The croaking of sleezy ryder: Peter Fonda, an edition of The Flying Burrito Brothers, that had more original members of The Byrds in it's ranks, than the Byrds did during that same time frame. There are a bunch of good things among the 28 tracks featured here. David Crosby's first studio recordings from 1963-1964 are featured here in all their historical glory. Jim McGuinn in 1962 at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, Ca. A 1971 Earl Scruggs record that features the Byrds as backing musicians, Gene Clark's association with Carla Olson brings a 1986 track into the mix. And my favorite selection: "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" featuring Roger McGuinn & Gene Clark, live & acoustic in concert in 1977. Do you need this CD? No, you don't, but if you are an Byrds completist like myself, it does fill-in some of the blank spaces in this musicial journey. What Byrds fans are screaming for are more releases such as: 'The Byrds Live in London~1971", and for good reason, as there are more live Byrd concerts in the vaults, and there is a market out here waiting for this stuff such as; "The Bottom Line Club, NYC ~ 1977" where they extracted the: "Heaven's Door" track. The Byrds were America's greatest band of the 1960's and most of their records from 1965-1969 are essential purchases, this CD is not, but it sure is interesting, and it has it's share of laughs {Like Fonda's 'singing'.} A big thank you, to the amazing Byrd fans down-under. Because of them, this CD is on the planet. Three Stars...
