Beautiful Movie,

I watched this movie last year for the first time on DVD. I missed it when it premiered in South Florida at the Miami Film Festival in 2007. And I could have kicked myself after reading Robert Rodriguez's review in the Miami Herald. This is a bittersweet look at a large suburban family, with a particular focus on the burgeoning sexuality of the main character, Zack, the family's most colorful character, although not altogether the only colorful character. In truth, all the people in the film have their own nuances and peculiarities that make C.R.A.Z.Y. a most compelling piece of cinema. It is a well-wrought out and thoughtful examination of the strains that someone being truly different puts on the entire family, but it is also a celebration of the rebellion of youth, the miracle of finding oneself, and the ultimate familial love that conquers even the most apparently insurmountable differences. The music in the film is extraordinary and, while adding a wonderful and exact touch of nostalgia, carries the movie through a couple of decades of popular history from the anonymous perspective of a unique nucleus: the family. This movie is an even-handed, sometimes heartbreaking, reflection on individuality, togetherness, and love. A must-see for fans of coming-of-age tales that aren't afraid to delve into all the ramifications of one character's growth into maturity. The blu-ray version of the movie looks absolutely STUNNING and has plenty of extras. At the listed price here on Amazon.ca, it is well-worth every penny.

Disappointed,

We ordered this video as a Birthday gift for our daughter. Though a French film, it stated it had English sub-titles in the description. We were all very disppointed when we were unable to access this option on the DVD, though again, it was stated on the menu. Upon further investigation, we found others had the same difficulty. Beware of false advertising.

No English Subtitles.,

I had previously seen this movie on TV & it wasdubbed in English. It is a fabulous movie & I was really looking forward to watching it on Blu Ray even though it was only available with English subtitles. Problem is, even though there is provision on the disc to select English subtitles, it would not work on this disc. So I now have a disc entirely in French, that I can't understand unless I decide to learn the French language ! The disc turned out to be a waste of money for me, but if it had English subtitles, I would have given it 5 stars...it's that good.
