4.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to life of Lewis, Jun 23 2011

Although this book is written for a seemingly middle school audience, I found it a great treat as an adult. I love the Heroes of Faith series and this book was a great glimpse into the life of "Jack." Would recommend it to all people who love Narnia and his other creations particularly younger readers.

3.0 out of 5 stars A modern day St. Paul., Jun 11 2007

A 2007 summer reading list mini review.

Jack Lewis has long been a hero of mine. It astonished me how quickly he could engage my attention with his works. I was in awe of his mastery of so many genres of writing. He communicated Christ in a way that was logical, honest and refreshing.

I think Sam Wellman does an excellent job of tracing Lewis's history. While it is a history that I am well acquainted with, Wellman crafted it in ways that gave me new glimpses at an old friend. I especially gained fresh insights into his relationship with his father, his contemporary J.R.R. Tolkien, and his wife Joy Gresham.

Those less familiar with Lewis and his work should not shy away from this volume. I believe it would put them on a strong footing to learn about the man in these pages, and then led to Lewis's pages themselves.
