This was a hilarious comedy. Fred Gwynne, Al Lewis, Joe Ross and I think Captain Block was played by Paul Reed. I was too young to remember this show but I knew that Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis were in it. I just purchased the Munsters complete set before this, so I utubed a little of this series just to see what it would be like.

It's funny, tasteful, with great scripts and character development. Fred Gwynne is great as the cultured and intelligent Muldoon who always seems to be dragged down to the mentality level of Toody. Joe E. Ross as Toody is probably the funniest part of the show. Captain Block's exasperation (particularly with Toody) is classic! Al Lewis is funny just from his facial expressions. Yes it's corny, and dated. In fact it's so dated that it's charming (if that makes any sense). I'm very pleased to have both seasons of this wonderful series as part of my DVD collection.

I do agree with previous reviewers about the packaging being not very good. The actual DVD boxes are good, but the way the discs are packaged is horrible. However, here I'm rating just the show. If you like comedies and don't have this in your collection or have never seen it, don't even hesitate, Oooo..... Oooo..... just buy it!

I have been retired from the police force for 9 years now and my father, for whom this was a gift, has been retired for 24. Most police shows don't reflect what goes on in the 90% of the time they aren't "driving fast and shooting bad guys" and pay little attention to the interaction of individuals who find humor in their day. We get to spend time together and reminisce and see former friends and co-workers amongst the characters. It has been 50 years, but I sang the theme song before we put in the first disc. If you like this, you'll appreciate Barney Miller, another show that concentrates on the human aspect of police officers. And Hill Street Blues...

I have only ever watched the show in reruns off and on. I didn't notice or care if they were not in order each episode was fun to watch. There is no long story curve that requires you to watch them in order. That being said I am glad I picked this up. It's a funny show and the picture quality is great. If you are a fan you should pick it up. I also had no issue with the packaging either. I have read some of the reviews and some people are just very fussy. I repeat if you like the show pick this up, you will not be disappointed.

THE PICTURE QUALITY IS VERY GOOD BUT THE EPISODES ARE VERY MIXED UP. THE EPISODES GO LIKE THIS DISC#1 EPISODE 6,19,15,23,26,24,25,5. DISC#2 EPISODE 4,28,16,11,9,27,30,29. DISC#3 EPISODE 13,14,7,22,12,1,17,21. DISC#4 EPISODE 2,8,10,20,3,18,EXTRAS. YOU ONLY HAVE TO CHANGE THE DVD 19 TIMES IF LIKE TO SEE EPISODES 1 THROUGH 30. WHAT A TREAT! DAVE BLANCHETTE HOPES THIS EPISODE ROAD MAP HELPS. I FIND THE SHOWS PLAY GREAT BUT SHOW ORDER IS VERY BAD I STILL SAY IT IS WORTH BUYING. WHAT CHOICE IS THERE?

Just received my copy of series today. I was shocked to discover that packaging used was the same "clipped tray" design, where one disc rests on top of the one below, used by Alliance in their New Outer Limits and Lexx issues of last year. Everyone hated this packaging (see reviews of these series), given how prone it is to disc scratching and damage. Having said this, due to the excellence of the series and the superb Amazon customer service, I would still buy this series but be prepared for potential returns due to damaged discs.

Update (Shock #2): Started watching series only to quickly discover that episodes are not in original broadcast order! Episodes are randomly scattered across the 4 discs. This is somewhat annoying since some early quest stars (the Schnausers) later became series regulars in different roles. Others have judged the video quality as good but I personally found it to be a little sub par in terms of dirt and missing frames. Starting to feel like release could have used a bit more attention to detail.
