Née à Bruxelles le 8 juin 1903, Marguerite de Crayencour voyage en Suisse et en Italie avant de se fixer aux États-Unis en 1958. Grand Prix national des Lettres en 1974, elle fut la première femme élue à l'Académie française en 1980. Elle est décédée le 17 décembre 1987 dans l'île des Monts-Déserts.
