Product Description

From Booklist

Juliet is sitting in a restaurant on a rainy Valentine's Day waiting for her boyfriend, Will, but he doesn't show. Furious, she leaves after waiting more than an hour and is promptly drenched by a speeding car. She catches the driver's eye, and although she is angry, she can't help noticing how handsome he is. At a ball thrown by the ad agency she works for, she encounters him again. Sykes works for a rival ad agency, and he's trying to snag the account she so desperately needs to land. But the attraction between the two is undeniable, and soon she finds herself kissing him in his car and then flying to Verona for a romantic weekend getaway. But what about Will? Juliet just can't seem to let go of what they have. Potter offers enough surprising twists to keep the story fresh, and movie rights for this cute romantic comedy have already been optioned, so readers will likely seek this one out. Kristine Huntley

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked from the beginning!, Jun 15 2004

This review is from: Calling Romeo (Paperback)
As soon as I started reading this novel, I couldn't put it down. I read it in one sitting. I highly recommend this book...frequently uses British slang, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY INSIGHTFUL..., April 25 2004

This review is from: Calling Romeo (Paperback)
On the surface, "Calling Romeo," by Alexandra Potter appears to be your typical, good, British "chick lit." Until the end. At that point, Potter ties everything together and offers the reader some very profound insights.

Juliet has an advertising career that has potential, a great best friend, and a live-in boyfriend, whom she loves and feels comfortable with. Her life begins to change, however, when a handsome and rich rivel in the advertising world wants to date her. She is not the type to be tempted, but she has ceased to feel special in the relationship that she is in. The decisions that she makes (and their consequences) make for an excellent novel.

The only problem that I encountered was with the frequent British words, which differed from American - as well as some of the British slang. ( I didn't have a CLUE what a "pac-a-mac" was until I looked it up on the web...) It would be great to have a "dictionary" of British terms that are used in the back.

I thought the title, "Calling Romeo" was so good when used in the context of the story. Very sweet. The cover design by Jaime Putorti was exceptionally great as well.

A reoccurring thought that I had while reading "Calling Romeo" was how often women are inclined to settle for less than they deserve. It was so refreshing to witness Alexander Potter's take on this as well.

I learned so much from this novel. I especially admire Alexandra Potter for sharing her own personal history at the end of this book. It took guts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable read, Feb 17 2004

This review is from: Calling Romeo (Paperback)
This is the third book by this author and I have read every one of them and they just get better every time. Her books are lighthearted, funny and very true to life. Her descriptions of the characters are vivid and endear themselves to you. If you have ever been in any of the situations, you can easily empathise. Am looking forward to reading the latest book DO YOU COME HERE OFTEN? which I understand is out in the UK next month so it will be first on my list when I visit in the summer!
