Product Description

With his 10-gallon hat and hubcap-sized belt buckle, Calgary's Paul Brandt could pass as a genuine Nashville new country crooner. That seems to be the point of 1996's Calm Before the Storm. Written and recorded with the Music Row elite, the slick disc fits neatly within the highly polished new country clique. Brandt sings his way through hurtin' songs like "Take It from Me," "12 Step Recovery," and "Pass Me By," his rumbling voice working well with the subdued twang of his backing band. It's an extremely accomplished debut, but you can't help but wish that Brandt would have included more of himself in the mix. Each song blurs into the next with no real personality. It's as American as a Canadian album can sound. --Matt Galloway

Calm Before the Storm is full of great songs. Each song comes from the heart where he tries to make a difference. I believe that Paul is the number one country star alive!!! I hope that your singing career lasts forever and you keep producing albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great country album and artist Jan 9 2001
Format:Audio CD
This album is wonderful. Paul Brandt has a winner with this, his debut album. Not only does he have a great voice, but he also wrote or co-wrote 6 of the songs on this album. Paul used to be a nurse in Calgary Alberta, so what a change in careers for him this is. But with the talent displayed on this album, I think he has found his niche. "I Do" which he wrote for his wife is one of the most romantic songs ever. Perfect for a wedding, as other reviewers have stated. Recommended!
