5.0 out of 5 stars The absolute best resource for learning to read Khmer., Jan 24 2001
By R. ARANT "Toun" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Cambodian System of Writing and Beginning Reader (Paperback)
First published in 1970, this text stands alone as the best source for those learning to read Khmer. Part One is a thorough but easily-followed analysis of the Cambodian system of writing. Part Two is a programmed text so well thought-out that one cannot help but quickly grasp the material. Part Three is a beginning reader. What Mary Haas did for a generation of students of Thai script, Franklin E. Huffman has matched and perhaps even surpassed for students of the strikingly beautiful Khmer system of writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Khmer Language, Jan 14 2009
By Michael Heng - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Cambodian System of Writing and Beginning Reader (Paperback)
A great book to have on hand for the beginner and for those who's primary language is khmer. This book is a must have for anyone wanting to have an
in depth look at khmer writing styles and formats. I was intriqued with the clear, concise, and pronunciation excercises. As a Khmer/American, I learned alot more than I ever did. Thanks!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good content but poorly bound, May 12 2007
By CC - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Cambodian System of Writing and Beginning Reader (Paperback)
This book is for those who are serious about acquiring Khmer. The phonetic key was very helpful. I was fortunate to have help from a native speaker and it still took me a while to figure it out. The pronunciation can be problematic for those completely new to the language.

The pages comes loose after about every five pages.
