Doesn't hold 40 lbs, May 24 2012

First the good - the shelf looks nice, and the screws the go into a stud are very strong. You could use them to do pull ups without a problem.
Now the bad - there is no way on earth that this could possibly hold 50 pounds. I put a 40 pound receiver on it, and it collapsed instantaneously. The problem is that whoever designed the method for attaching to the wall bracket was... I don't know. I'm bewildered how anyone could even design such a system.
There is a wall bracket, which you put into a stud. it is ok, although the part that rests against the wall is angled, instead of flush against the wall. This means you have to really indent the wall to get it secure. A flat backed bracket would have avoided this issue.
Then comes the worst part - to attach the arms you use a system... well, I can't even describe it because it is so convoluted. The bottom line is that all of the force of the shelf is being supported by about 2-3 threads on a pair of screws. It makes no sense, and it failed instantaneously.
Search elsewhere... I replaced it with Peerless Adjustable Component Shelf for AV EQ - that beast does the job

Undisclosed differences and inaccurate info lead to frustrating experience, May 1 2012

I purchased two of these to hang in my living room - right next to each other. Amazon indicated there were two in stock, but on shipped immediately and the others a few days later. Upon receiving the second, I realized that they're either manufactured inconsistently, or I have shelves of different generations. All sorts of subtle differences: Logos in different places, vinyl veneer isn't a match, one shelf is nearly an inch shorter than the other, one mounting bracket is gloss anodized, the other is painted with a flat black paint, etc. Hanging side by side, the differences are obvious.
Further complicating matters, no one at Amazon has the foggiest what I'm talking about, how to tell which is the current version, or which version I'll receive if I return one. I have to either return both and seek other options, or buy another and return the odd man out apparently. What was supposed to take a few days is going to drag out into a several week long fiasco. What a huge PITA!
These aren't at all cheap, so you're not saving anything buying online. Do yourself a favor, go buy something from a big-box store that you can actually look at before you're stuck with it. Also, if Amazon indicates they have two in stock, be suspicious, and be aware that there are different versions of this product out there!
