1.0 out of 5 stars $1200 for a map?, April 5 2012
This review is from: Camino de Santiago Maps / Mapas / Cartes: St. Jean Pied de Port/Roncesvalles to Finisterre via Santiago de Compostela (Paperback)
I suspect it was a typo but I was nervous to have this item anywhere near a purchase point, including my wish list. The map should not cost more than the rest of the trip combined.

4.0 out of 5 stars Camino de Santiago Maps, Dec 14 2011
This review is from: Camino de Santiago Maps / Mapas / Cartes: St. Jean Pied de Port/Roncesvalles to Finisterre via Santiago de Compostela (Paperback)
This is a general over all outline of the route. It seems like a decent guide but it lacks some of he detail that I have seen in other books. It is brief and durable for taking on the road. The maps are broken down into daily distances by the author and may be handy. This tends to be a bit too structured for my style. It is a good reference tool when used in conjunction with other material in preparation for the Camino. I found some of the trail color coding confusing and information of trails other then the Camino Frances useless.

I used the previous edition of the guide when I walked the Camino from SJPP in 2009. If you are only willing to carry one guidebook this is the one to bring as the maps are readable, the elevation charts very helpful, and the book lightweight and well sized for the cargo pockets of the convertible pants all peregrines wear. Instead of the New Agey passages ("The Mystical Path"),
Brierley could have more helpfully added more info about the various albergues or highlights. And the approach route to Leon has been changed from his description/map, an error repeated in this new edition. Otherwise it's the perfect guide to the Camino.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE book to carry, Jan 27 2012
By J. Marren "jtm497" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Camino de Santiago Maps / Mapas / Cartes: St. Jean Pied de Port/Roncesvalles to Finisterre via Santiago de Compostela (Paperback)
Considered by most to be THE one book to use when walking the Camino, this is a slimmed down version of the standard Brierly guideA Pilgrim's Guide to the Camino de Santiago: St. Jean - Roncesvalles - Santiago, with only the maps (critical) and abbreviated information on the path and lodging. Three languages--English, Spanish, French. People carrying backpacks will be glad to hear this weighs in at a light 4.8 ounces.

I'm finding the maps to be the best thing I could have. Will be going May 2013.
Maps are so full of info I'd never expect in a compact. This is going to be so helpful.
