Story Behind the Book

“Beginning my freshman year in college, God began drawing my heart to His. That spring, I trusted Christ as Lord and Savior and latched on to His journey. As an avid reader and eager Christian, I anxiously sought any material on faith-related topics. More specifically, I was craving material from people in my stage of life. It became quickly apparent, however, that collegiate voices had been overlooked, or at least left untold. This seemed a dangerous void. So with God’s provision, I setout to write a book that would tell the stories of common struggles Christians face in college everywhere. Thus began the vision of Can You Keep Your Faith in College. ” — Abbie Smith

About the Author

Abbie Smith was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Though she grew up in a loving home, religion was never a priority. Even through her Catholic high school, the concept of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ remained silent. Abbie attended Emory University and accepted Christ in the spring of her freshman year. After four busy years of campus ministry involvement and playing on the tennis team, she graduated in May of 2003 majoring in religion. Abbie is a member of North Point Community Church and resides in Atlanta, Georgia. Her passions include writing, discipleship, and spending time in God’s great outdoors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for both Students and their Parents, Jan 2 2007
By Brian "Semper Reformanda Records" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Can You Keep Your Faith in College?: Students from 50 Campuses Tell You How - and Why (Paperback)
My church recently started a campus ministry where I lead worship. It's been a few years since I graduated from college, but I can still recall the difficulties. Recently, I have come across some amazing testimonies of how difficult the transition from home to college is in today's world. Can you Keep Your Faith in College? addresses these difficulties in a very real and practical way. I say "very real" because it is written not by pastors or parents, but by actual students that are living the adventure of the college journey at the present, which gives this book credibility, in my opinion.

Addressing normal college situations like dorms, class, dating, sororities/frats, parties, church and outside college activities these young believers share their ups and downs, problems and solutions, giving great advice on how to protect and renew their faith in Christ. I meet a lot of young believers, and especially of late, brand new college converts in the minsitry I serve, and I am glad to have this resource to share with them as a means of encouragement and discipleship.

I would recommend this book to parents, students, and churches that have campus ministries or just lots of young men and women.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent, Insightful and Easy Read!, Nov 18 2008

I purchased this book for my Bible Study with high school Senior girls. What stuck out to me was that this wasn't a basic (or boring) study on preparing for college life, but it brought to life the real experiences and struggles of Christian college students. I loved the openness and rawness of each individual. As a youth pastor and graduate of college, I highly recommend this book for both pre-college students and current college students.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful for Christian students who are in any college, April 18 2007

If you know a young person in college who is a believer, they need this book. While every story is not perfect, they are generally very inspiring and helpful. Most college kids wonder if they are the only ones dealing with the issues they face, and this book makes it very clear that they are not alone. The benefits cannot be denied, because hearing from their peers about these issues makes a greater difference than it ever would coming from anyone else. Put it on your gift list this year.
