And there's more!,

This review is from: V1 Canada Needs You (Audio CD)
Admittedly I'm biased as a blood relative, but fans of Mike's first CD and his work in the schools on Canadian history should know that he now has a second one out - "Canada Needs You, Volume II" and it's as good if not better than the first! His latest covers issues, events, and people from 20th Century Canada, including the Winnipeg Strike of 1919, Expo 67, Maurice Richard, "The Famous Five" and more. It is musically and lyrically rich, engaging and hummable. Suitable for all ages.I will refrain from leading those interested to Mike's website to buy a copy of the album, and hope that this restraint will serve as a nudge to Amazon.ca to get this new item into their stock!

Canadian History Comes to Life!!!!!,

I'm a teacher who is always on the lookout for novel and interesting ways to motivate my students' interest in the subjects I teach. Mike Ford has joined my list of musical heroes for his brilliant CANADA NEEDS YOU VOL. 1; I cannot wait for the release of VOL. 2.I gave my Grade 8 students the assignment of writing filming and editing their own Heritage Minute based on topics and personalities culled from our textbook. The group who focused on William Lyon Mackenzie and the Rebellion were naturally entranced by TURN THEM OOOT!, track 6 on this CD, which Mike Ford sings in the "voice" of a very Scottish-sounding William Lyon Mackenzie. The music "hooked" and engaged my students -- and became an integral part of their polished finished product. Mike Ford varies musical styles on this CD -- while his strength is the ever-reliable acoustic guitar storytelling folk-type song, young listeners will not soon forget the AC/DC riffs of SIR JOHN A (YOU'RE OK) or the homage to Hank Snow, the geography-lesson-friendly I'VE BEEN EVERYWHERE. Every Canadian teacher looking to bring his or her history lessons to life will want this CD in the classroom boombox!!!!!
