Garth, Genius,
By Glenn Thurman (Kitchener, ON. Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Canadian Celebration of the Band (Audio CD)
Garth was the man who created all the musical mixes that made The Band one of the originators of blending all the music genres into Rock and Roll. His choice of songs on this album is great and the fact that all the talent on the album is Canadian shows that the genius hasn't lost it. I grew up with Richard Manuel in Stratford and appreciate The Band and all their music and Richard's place in The Band's history and success. Garth, thanks for bringing back the music of The Band and a friend. For anyone who is a fan of The Band and Canadian artists this cd is a must in your library. Once again thanks to Garth for this excellent cd and the Genius lives on. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

It's time to get a compilation that focuses on some of the best songs that are somehow forgotten on most other compilations. Bruce Cockburn's version of Sleeping is fantastic. Garth's signature keyboards grace every song, and the Canadians involved in this project deliver exceptional performances. It would have been a five star review if The Band hadn't already recorded these songs; their versions are still superior. Still it's refreshing to hear some of the songs that might otherwise have been forgotten.

A tour de force through some of The Band's music - all performed by OTHER Candian musicians. Oh, and yes, the Master Garth Hudson is there on ALL tracks, too. Some really memorable moments, for instance Cowboy Junkies doing a wonderful version of a Basement Track song, Clothes Line Saga.If you like me are still and forever and ever in love with this outfit that didn't need any fancy name other than simply THE Band, then this celebration is also for you.
