The crowd-pleasing Canadian Living Cooks are well-known to Canadians from the Food Network television program. Here authors Daphna Rabinovitch, Emily Richards, and Elizabeth Baird offer favourite recipes from the show, along with action photos from the studio. The 185 recipes are divided into 16 themed chapters that will stoke the creative fires with such tantalizing titles as "Any Excuse for a Party," "Stir Up a Little Romance," "Relaxed Weekend Cooking," "Picnics and Potlucks," and "Molto Chocolate." Some recipes, such as Romano Pork Chops, work any day, while others, such as Garlic Paprika Shrimp, are perfect for entertaining. For a quick dinner from the "Monday to Friday" collection, toss golden chicken pieces with ricotta cheese, lemon, nutmeg, and wilted spinach, then throw the fragrant mixture over pasta for a quick dinner. Because the recipes are thoroughly tested in the Canadian Living test kitchen, they're pretty close to fool-proof. The authors emphasize convenient food with little fuss--often calling for dried herbs instead of fresh, for example, and providing tips for making dishes ahead. The book could benefit from a few more photos. While the recipes are easy to follow and nicely laid out, there are no photographs of the finished dishes. In most cases that's not a problem, but a picture of the Pool Party Cake, for one, would be a helpful guide for creating the licorice ladders, chocolate cookie deck, and blue gel pool. But one thing is certain about the Canadian Living Cooks--they know how to make food fun.
