Responsibility, perseverance, and ingenuity are virtues that serve a young gingerbread boy well along a journey of self-discovery. Based on the Candy Land board game, this 55-minute animated adventure begins with a young gingerbread boy named Jib setting off toward the Candy Castle with an offering of special gingerbread icing to present to the King for the "Sweet Celebration" ceremony. At the Castle, King Kandy appoints his rather irresponsible daughter Princess Lolly to appear at the ceremony, stressing that she must bring her royal scepter to ensure the continued blossoming of everything sweet in Candy Land. Jib hurries along the colorful path to the Kingdom, meeting new friends Mr. Mint and Jolly along the way, while the sneaky Licorice Bites steal Princess Lolly's scepter to further Lord Licorice's evil plan to turn Candy Land into Licorice Land. A chance meeting between Jib and Princess Lolly leads the two to join forces against Lord Licorice, but can they possibly recover the scepter and make it to the Candy Castle in time for the celebration? Five original songs add musical fun to a fanciful adventure that offers a cute story to accompany a whole new generation's journey to Candy Land. (Ages 3 to 7) --Tami Horiuchi

3.0 out of 5 stars Crude-looking; fine for small kids. But beware of ads! Mar 14 2005

My four-year-old loves this DVD. It's very colorful, and the shallow story is simple enough for him to follow. Animation quality is mediocre, only slightly better than current Saturday morning fare (though the backgrounds are nice).

The worst feature is the introduction, which features over 10 minutes of commercials for other DVDs. You cannot use the MENU button to skip these advertisements! You have to fast-forward over them manually. THIS IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING. I've made a copy disc to eliminate this problem, but most users will have to sit through the obnoxious spam ads over and over again. BAD PUBLISHER. NO DONUT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot get enough Jun 7 2005

I got this movie for a long car trip. My 3 year old had never seen it and I thought she would be interested as I assumed the colors would be bright and characters cute. Oh My Goodness, she watched the movie 8 times in a row (9 total in one day). She will watch and laugh and acts as if it is the first time she has seen it. It was a sanity saver for us.

4.0 out of 5 stars sweetly entertaining for a 2 1/2 year old Mar 20 2005

I purchased this video for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. She is very into the music and tries to sing along and even mimic the movements that some of the characters are making. The plotline is simple enough for her to follow without her becoming disinterested. The colors are bright and vibrant and she really likes how "happy" everything looks. The ending scares her. she doesn't like it when people are being mean to each other. I had to explain to her what was going on. Overall the characters are funny and loveable.

If you are looking for a grade A movie quality film this is not it. This is a fun rainy day movie that is ok to an adult watching it.
