Good Book--Only If You're Looking to Complement Wall Color, Mar 6 2010
By A. Kiasi-Barnes - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Can't Fail Color Schemes (Spiral-bound)
I purchased "Can't Fail Color Schemes" because it promised to be a tutorial for color-challenged persons such as myself. I'm a little afraid of introducing wall colors other than "eggshell" in my home environment, and I thought this book would help increase my courage to use color confidently as I decorate my home. However, "Can't Fail Color Schemes" speaks primarily to those who want to accent an existing color. To that end, the many beautiful photographs of bedrooms, living rooms, etc., discuss the colors of throw pillow and other accent pieces without any identification of the wall color. What's more, on most pages, one or two of the colors suggested for an environment were not easily discernible in the room pictured. Maybe I just didn't get it, but the book was not useful for my purposes.
The information would have been much more useful to me if the book had focused on warm/cool colors in rooms and accent colors that complement them. After previewing the pages, this is what I expected from the book.
There is a very helpful "how-to" about choosing and complementing color in an interior or exterior environment. So since the book was about 10% helpful, I could not in good conscience return it, but it didn't meet my expectations.

Coloring Your Life Just Got Better, Dec 6 2007

Ms. Wax's book is a treasure for home decorators that love to play with color. She introduces color in so many different ways in the home and encourages her readers to experiment with different palates. There is also a fascinating discussion of people's perception of color and how it affects the choices in the home. The book's spiral binding, makes it quite user friendly while referencing and reading it. When I picked up the book, I immediately began to envision some new projects that I wanted to start working on, and in the colder months it takes a lot to get me motivated.

Good but could be better, Feb 24 2010

I really like this book, appreciate the many photographs in there. However, while she places the colors that would look good with each page, I think this could have been improved if she added the actual main color, typically the wall color, along with the colors she felt would compliment it. There were many instances where I would have liked to see all of the colors together, the wall color, along with the colors she feels would go well with it. Also, there were examples where I couldn't see where the complimentary colors were in the pictures. If you need a book that will give you some basic ideas of which colors go together, this is a good place to start.
