Product Description

Review

The album is roughly divided into neat thirds: an opening splash of trendy alt- rock ... a slew of hip-hop and R&B (including decent remixes of Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes tracks), followed by a batch of dis-Counting Crows angst rock.... The movie's title is lifted from the old Replacements song, which is included for a dose of '80s nostalgia. An astutely programmed soundtrack, yes--but for all the effort, the highlight is still Rhymes sampling the Knight Rider theme. -- Entertainment Weekly

Amazon.ca

This is a soundtrack that runs like a fun mix tape from an eclectic friend. It's music to put the top down and hit the highways to, songs that bounce from soul, pop, funk, rap, and back. Smashmouth look to have another massive hit with their cover of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' "Can't Get Enough of You Baby." The song's fun beat and organ sounds suit the band (and summertime) perfectly. Fans of Third Eye Blind, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, and K.P. & Envyi will want to check out the soundtrack's unreleased remixes. The Missy Elliott remix of "Hit Em Wit Da Hee" in particular is a solid slow jam. The CD is dotted with some classic tracks such as the title track by the Replacements, "Flashlight" from Parliament, "Paradise City" from Guns N' Roses, and the sure party starter "It's Tricky" from Run DMC. --Jim Young

I actually enjoyed this soundtrack a lot. The variation was good, although I will say I was disappointed they didn't put the Yaz song "Only You" (Plays when they meet at the end at the train station) or "Six Underground" by the Sneaker Pimps (plays when Hewitt enters the party). Overall though, I still listen to this CD every so often and it's a good mix.
1. "Graduate" - Third Eye Blind [5/5] : awesome opening. Third Eye Blind is my favorite band ever, and this punk song is just a great way to open this cd. definitely hardcore!
2. "Can't Get Enough of You Baby" - Smash Mouth [2/5] : Am I the only one that is sick of this song? This song got a lot of airplay, so it only added on after listening to this cd. Sorry, but this song drives me nuts.
3. "Dammit" - Blink 182 [4/5] : Alright you have to admit, this is one of the best rock songs. ever. Almost defines teen angst.
4. "I Walk In" - Brougham [3/5] : cute, but gets old after a while.
5. "Fire It Up" - Busta Rhymes [5/5] : I love this song, and Busta Rhymes is great. The chorus is probably the best part, but the beat is steady and and sometimes its hard not to start bobbing your head!
6. "Hit Em Wit da Hee" - Missy Elliot [3/5] : Missy Elliot is cool, but I just don't like this song. It almost seems a little out of place. The song is so inconsistent to me, but Missy's voice is good and so I gave this a 3.
7. "Swing My Way" - Envyi [5/5] : I love this song. One of the best on the album. The song is so catchy that it will be stuck in your head for a long time. I always find myself humming this song. It's like a smooth R&B song, but its fast.
8. "Flashlight" - Parliament [5/5] : this song is so much fun! I always sing the lyrics, lol. The first time I heard this song I thought it was SO wierd, but it grows on you.

did people go nuts when buying this soundtrack? BECAUSE NOTHING IS GOOD EXCEPT 2 SONGS!!! the album is not good at all. the alternative rock mixture that they got going on here is terrible. groups like Blink 182, Third Eye Blind & Guns N Roses, should be ashamed to put there name on such worthless garbage.
the only tracks worth taking a listen are the two singles. "turn it up (remix)/fire it up" the busta rhymes joint, is blazin of course, and everyone could have expected that, & "hit em wit da hee" (remix) by Missy Elliott, Lil Kim, Mocha & Timbaland is off the chain, though which is expected since there is no such thing as a wack missy track.
the movie was so good, but this album is so bad. trust me and stick with the movie, because the soundtrack can't even compare, and i can't hardly wait to get rid of it!!!

If you have seen the movie, you have noticed the music as well. So many hit songs were on the movie. That was my motivation to buy the album. I started listening, and the first of the CD was excellent, but I had to skip to the end to find any other songs that I recognized from the movie. ... I was happy with the few songs that were on it that I recognized, but dissapointed by the few they left out. The CD does, however include the edited version of Blink 182's ...[---- it !], which isn't easy to find. So if you saw the movie, make sure you check the back of the album to see if all of the songs that you liked are on it, and if they are you are sure to enjoy, but I was let down

Maybe it's just me and my extremely varied musical tastes, but the mix of music on here works very well together. The remixes of Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes and KP & Envyi are really good (The Third Eye Blind remix isn't great though) and in some cases sound better than the original. Blink 182's Dammit if of course awesome. The classic Run DMC track was a great choice. Smash Mouth's hit Can't Get Enough Of You Baby sounds great, and the Guns 'N Roses track is cool too. However, if you've seen the movie and are buying the soundtrack because you liked some of the songs in it, be careful: a lot of the songs in the movie aren't on here.

Not only a soundtrack for the film but a soundtrack for your next party! Its the perfect mix of modern musical styles. You've got alternative radio hits with Blink182's "Dammit", 3rd Eye Blind "Graduate" and the most recent hit, Feeder with "High". Then move to some hot rap, with tracks by Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot, and classic Run-D.M.C. The Disc continues with a little Parliament funk, then slows it down with tallented Matthew Sweet and even Guns N' Roses. Yes thats right those 80s bad boys make an appearance. Overall your looking at a great example of quality music for your money.

I actually bought the soundtrack before seeing the movie, because of the great songs it had. Now it's one of my favorite CD's. After having seen the movie on HBO, I want to know how so many of the great songs in the movie didn't make it. If they made a volume 2 it would sell. And Vol #2 should definetly include "6 underground" and "Mandy". I hope those who agree will post a review and maybe somebody will listen. "If you make it... we will buy" It was a great movie and a good soundtrack, now help us out with Vol 2
P.S. Was "Mandy" about his dog?
