Experience the thrill and terror all over again with Resident Evil 5 for PS3. Featuring Chris Redfield of the original Resident Evil and Sheva Alomar, a West African agent of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), this sci-fi survival game is staged in a remote desert colony packed with hordes of fast-moving, quick-thinking enemies that represent a whole new breed of evil.

Meet Two Fierce, Playable Main Characters
Back from the original title and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, former S.T.A.R.S. special forces team member Redfield is a battle-tested, founding member of the BSAA. With a reputation for superior marksmanship and phenomenal hand-to-hand combat abilities, he's on the ground and up against a new strain of evil.

You'll call his shots from the same over-the-shoulder third person viewpoint that distinguished Resident Evil 4, except this time you'll also have the option of playing as his teammate, the fierce, local Alomar. Whoever you play as, updates to the earlier version's third-person control scheme offer more options and promise intuitive interactions.

Learn to Work Together
The new cooperative game play element focuses on the realities of a dual-agent mission, highlighting the ways in which Redfield and Alomar must work together to survive the unexpected, while still allowing them to split up and work alone. To help you maximize the potential of this setup, two-player online and offline co-op modes ensure that you have options when picking a partner.

Steel yourself Against the Harsh Reality of Kijuju
An advanced version of Capcom's proprietary MT Framework game engine brings groundbreaking graphics and effects to Kijuju, the highly-developed environment where this game's action takes place. New, lifelike lighting schemes highlight the differences between harsh sunlight and extreme darkness, and when you move from one to the other, you'll have to wait for your character's eyes to adjust before you can see clearly, adding to the suspense and challenge of navigating this game's environs.

Face the Next Generation of Evil
You'll face new enemies with faster reflexes and improved AI, designed to be as dangerous alone as they are in groups and to keep even Resident Evil masters on their toes. Thankfully, they're not the only ones who have evolved. This game also offers access to powerful new weapons variations that extend your destructive capabilities.

And the updated, quick-select inventory system allows for real-time inventory management, as well as allowing characters to trade items and allowing you to place an item on the directional pad for instant access. Add all this to a detailed storyline the touches on what the past ten years have meant for Redfield and a Hollywood-caliber soundtrack, and it's clear that the latest installment in this series really does showcase all the elements at the heart of horror gaming.

Product Description

The biohazard threat has not ended: Just when it seemed that the menace of Resident Evil had been destroyed, along comes a new terror to send shivers down player¿s spines. Chris Redfield, returning Resident Evil hero, has followed the path of the evil literally around the globe. After joining a new organization, Chris heads to Africa where the latest bioterrorism threat is literally transforming the people and animals of the city into mindless, maddened creatures. He is joined by a new partner, Sheva Alomar, who lends her strength, intelligence and sharp-shooting skills to the mission. In order to survive, Chris and Sheva must work together to take on the challenges of discovering the truth behind this evil plot. Utilizing a revolutionary new co-op mode of gameplay, players will be able to assume control of either Chris or Sheva and experience Resident Evil in new ways. In Resident Evil 5, Capcom will have players fearing the daylight as much as they have feared shadow in previous games. Promising to revolutionize the series by delivering an unbelievable level of detail, realism and control, Resident Evil 5 is certain to bring new fans to the series. New technology developed specifically for the game, as well as incredible changes to both the gameplay and world of Resident Evil will make this a must-have game for gamers across the globe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Racist at all! Great game! Feb 19 2009
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
First of all I'm judging this from the demo I played so far and it's great. It's basically following the story of RE4 where the people are not zombies but victims of parasites. This game is not racist at all and it has only been called racist by people who don't understand the story. Every single person that attacks you IS infected. Black people are not depicted as savages or anything it's just that they're infected by a form of parasite that takes over your body and mind leaving a few of the hosts traits behind, the infected are ultimately controlled by the parasite which are all collectively controlled by a King or Queen. As in RE4 this is a totally different breed of enemy where not only are they intelligent but they work together and communicate together. Like the man with the speakerphone in the demo. Calling this game racist is like calling RE4 racist to the white Spanish people of the outskirts of Spain which were infected by the parasites in that game.

If anyone is interested in buying this and thrown off by the other review calling this racist, I'd disregard that. That's the kind of ignorant allegation that starts more hate. How come there are so many movies with white zombies? Is that racism to white people? Are they savages? Or what about the few white people that are infected by the parasite. I remember shooting a few of those in the demo too! Is Capcom conspiring against black and white people? No, they are not.

Oh if you want proof of savagery in Resident evil 4? Play the first hour and you'll see a Spanish policeman impaled and set on fire. You'll also find a Spanish woman pinned to the wall of a shed with a rake. Is this sexism? Lets not forget the dog left caught in a bear trap.

I rest my case.

PS. Sorry to make the last reviewer seem bad but I just think claims like that are garbage.

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
In RE5, you have an initial badguy with a fake 1950's chicago criminal accent, his accomplice who wears a cloak and a fox mask, who you track down after being pursued by motorcycle zombies, who you eventually pursue to an oil rig so that it can blow up, which you flee from and then get snuck upon by his STEALTH COMBAT YACHT in a conveniently located swamp, all while in the background you have the hammiest villain ever made (who has ALWAYS been hammy), wearing the most ridiculous outfit imaginable (it's made out of some checkered tarp material), who uses his matrix kung-fu to beat you up before fleeing to the ANCIENT AFRICAN ZOMBIE RUINS, which are conveniently located next to his SUPERTANKER port. His supertanker which, by the way, also has a runway suitable for his STEALTH BOMBER, and a weapon tied to a laserbeam from SPACE, and then he flies the STEALTH BOMBER but oh no it crashes into that active volcano right off the coast of Africa. You know, that one? And then they duke it out in the volcano, before discovering the power of friendship and timing the dual rocket blasts to Wesker's face.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but far from perfect. May 3 2013

I bought this game mainly because it's so cheap now. To be fair, I enjoyed most of the game and I'm glad I played through it, but I wasn't a huge fan. This was the first RE game I've owned and I'm happy I gave it a go, but a few the units and bosses (Chainsaw Maginis and Reapers in particular) were unbelievably annoying. The shooter mechanics were relatively poor too, but I got used to crappy laser reticle and no-strafe gameplay.

Once you finish the game (Which lasted me about 12 hours on normal difficulty) there's a lot of replay value. For example: Getting better grades on all chapters for all difficulties, unlocking character models, mercenaries mode, etc... but to be honest, I had had enough of the game by the time I was finished the story.

It was well worth the 18 dollars I paid for it, but it's far from perfect.

1.0 out of 5 stars Overrated
The action reflects the gamecube version of resident evil 4 while the addition of a team mate only adds useless distraction. The controls are beyond awful, and gets frustrating. Read more
