Product Description

The year is 1777. As the brooding mists of war settle over a stark American battlefield, Captain Ritcherd Buchanan yearns for his native England—and for Kyrah Payne, the woman he loves. Wounded and disheartened, he eventually returns home, only to have Kyrah torn cruelly away from him and deported for a crime she didn’t commit. Desperate to bring her home, he joins a band of privateers and finds himself embracing the American patriot cause—a cause he’d once sworn to defeat.

All alone in a country at war, Kyrah becomes a victim of the breach between her own impoverished circumstances and the aristocratic upbringing of the man she loves. They had been best friends and confidants for more than half her life, but now she wonders if Ritcherd will ever be able to find her—or if he’ll even try. And she fears that the chasm between their worlds can never be bridged.

A powerful and deeply moving saga, its intricate plot expertly woven and guaranteed to keep any reader turning its pages. The only disappointment is that the book ends!

The Captain of Her Heart may be the finest novel yet by best-selling author Anita Stansfield.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaniginitive and captivating May 28 2004

I've read all of Anita Stansfield's books and I would say that this is one of my favorites. It has a great deal of adventure and, of course, romance. Though all her books have the "happily ever after" endning, this book leaves you craving more and wondering what will happen in the future of these characters. Brilliantly written and captivation, a must for everyone who loves a great adventure to curl up on the couch with.

4.0 out of 5 stars ending left me wanting more July 16 2012

This is my first book written by Anita Stansfield. I loved the story and couldn't put the book down. In fact I finished it in one day! I was disappointed in that the end left me wanting more as it just didn't finish the story. She just left you hanging at the end and with no real resolution to the story. I read the book 2 teaser chapter in the end and quickly realized that these should have been one book. Now I realize she has spread it out across 4 books! Bugger. Second bugger is that they are over $9 each. Sigh... maybe I will wait for price reduction. I gave it a 4 star rating as the ending literally leaves you on the end of the your seat waiting for an ending. Really want to read the rest, but not willing to shell out $30 for the remaining 3 books. Maybe a Christmas wish list.

1.0 out of 5 stars Written for the sole purpose of making you buy the next book Sept. 6 2012

Nothing makes me more angry than a book that is written with the sole object to make you buy the next book. I have no issue with books that have multiple characters that spin off into other books, but when the first book has no real ending-----!@!@@$##.

This book had other issues as well:

1)I NEVER skim unless the book is full of filler. Well, I found myself skimming like never before in this book;

2) Left hanging on several issues (again just to get you to buy the next one--which doesn't work with me) like was her father's death a suicide or was he murdered, what happened to her husband?, where is the mystery fortune hidden?, etc.

This author should have left out the filler, ended this book with answers to all the questions and then written a second book about the delightful character, Captain Garrett. Instead she wants me to pay $9.99 to find out the ending.

I will not read this author again.

1.0 out of 5 stars wholesome it is not Dec 31 2013

I enjoy books with a period them, but I felt bamboozled on this one. Things took a long time to develop, and then when things finally started to speed up it moved in the wrong direction! Suddenly, what I thought was going to be a sweet love story of overcoming obstacles, turned into an erotic romance! What a waist of time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fluffy and Cliche March 8 2014

This is the first book of Anita Stansfield' s that I have read. For having written so many books, I was surprised that she is not a better writer.
I thought her storyline was developed enough and she was not a total juvenile writer, but I found myself skimming alot of "blah blah blah" passages. She wrote phrases such as "he just didn't know what he would do wthout her" or, "he was so angry with his mother he couldn't stand it". A few times someone is saying something about not needing money or wealth to be happy; as if author is reiterating it. The talent of a writer, I believe, is to tell the story, leave the preaching out of it, and let the reader infer any subtle messages presented.
The hero, Richerd, and the heroine, Kyra, are not believable. The hero served as a captain in the British army during the Revolutionary war, but can't seem to control his temper. The night his mother has his fiance, Kyra, thrown in jail, he is supposedly furious, yet accepts a (drugged) mug of hot cocoa from her. Later, while aboard a pirate ship, his friends need train him to fight. True, he had to learn to use his other hand because his right one was injured, but the philosophy of combat is universal. It seemed he didn't know anything about fighting.
Kyra, on the other hand was employed as domestic help in England, but when she reaches America, she thinks she has no skills with which to support herself. She pays for 2 months room and board, but instead of then looking for work afterwards, she visits the dock every day, hoping Richerd will come for her. She makes too many poor choices to be a likeable heroine. Do something strong, lady!

Moreover, the story doesn't compliment the traditions of 1770's. Being a wealthy Lord in England, Richard doesn't act like one. He does not see to his lordly duties when leaving his estate, he lets his mother walk all over him, and frequently went unchaparoned with Kyra. Any gentleman would've had a girl's reputation utmost in his mind. He had a"who cares" attitude which seems fun enough, but not to the point of being stupid.

I won't be wasting anymore time reading books by Anita Stansfield.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks Anita, you got me hooked June 4 2012

This is the first Anita Stansfield book I have read. I downloaded it to my Kindle because it was free. I was so lucky to find a book that was well written with a setting in America during the Revolutionary War and also in Cornwall, England. I have been looking for a book that was both historical and British. The characters are so interesting and believable. Ritcherd Buchanan and Kyrah Payne follow their own paths but always share a certain spiritual bond. The narrative is at times painful when longing becomes unbearable for both of them after they are unjustly separated. I think the thing I enjoyed most about the book was the descriptive writing. Now I am left wondering what is next, which I'm sure I will have to find out in the continuing Buchanan Saga. I can hardly wait.
