4.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise, Sep 26 2011
By
To begin with, a confession: I am a ST: Voyager geek. I am not fond of the relaunch novels, whose characters have little or nothing to do with the ones we saw in the series (protagonists by the same name, is about all), or where beloved characters are killed off for no apparent reason other than as a cheap thrill for the author. So I thought I would try a novelization from the early days. I was pleasantly surprised -- it wasn't Shakespeare or even just John Grisham, but it was clearly and cleanly written. The action scenes were well done and while the dialogue stuck to the script in key places, the writers (L.A. Graf is two people) added thoughts and motivations that brought something extra. Too bad this one appears to be no longer found on bookstore shelves (I bought my copy used).

if you seen the first episode of star trek voyager... listening to it is a different experience. Robert Picardo (also known as "the doc") is an amazing story teller. his voice is fantastic. i recommend this to any star trek fan. enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of details the TV pilot didn't have, Jan 31 2004

After watching the pilot on televison, I saw this book a the grocery store. I wasn't a big trek fan, but Kate Mulgrew's "Girl Power" attitude hooked me to Voyager.

I read this book in a few days. There were a lot of details that I'd missed the first time I saw the show and lots of details that weren't even in the pilot.

I liked how it described in more detail how the crews attempt to mesh so they can use their combined resources to get home.

The 8 page photo insert would have been a lot better if it was in color, but it was a neat feature anyway.
