Satisfactory but not the best,
By "fortunesinica" (Toronto, ON, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Carmina Burana (Audio CD)
I admit I'm not an expert but happened to listen to various recordings of the Carmina Burana due to professional purposes. Andre Previn and the London Symphony Orchestra should be appealing to classical fans; however the tempos are deliberately altered to a slow and smooth flow that they no longer '''shock''' my ears. Excitements from some hollywood scripts even exceeded my expectation from this album. Try it if you are going for the name. IMO I would sincerely recommend a different recording, such as Eugene Jochum's.

Not the best recording,
By Vaughn Roste (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Carmina Burana (Audio CD)
While doing research for my Master's dissertation which was on Carmina Burana, I did a comparative study of several Carmina Burana recordings: this one in my opinion was among the worst. While the singing and orchestral playing is very solid, the tempos are largely too slow to capture the intensity of emotion expected by modern audiences of this peice, having heard it excerpted by so many Hollywood films. Previn's approach to conducting somehow seems to remove a lot of the excitement and lustre of this incredible composition: I strongly recommend a different recording, such as Levine or Eugene Jochum.

From 1975 and still sounds brilliant!,

I am not a fan of choral music, but this piece is very pleasing. The audio quality is perfect, so you have no distractions to remove you from the wonderous images that fill your mind with the slightest close of your eyes. If you are looking for a CD to glide you out from your seat with its smooth vocals, while the instruments blend into the background, this is my release recommendation.
