There are so many elements to appreciate in this excellent series. It's well-crafted, perfectly cast and most importantly written with intrigue. The ambiance is mystical in it's storytelling, yet accurate in it's depression-era setting. As the title states, the story follows a Carnivale troupe as they travel throughout the dust bowl, guided by and towards a mysterious destiny. There is a constant theme of good vs. evil, complete with biblical references, as well as the determination of which is which, from the strong character development to substantive plot lines. (Warning - contains much adult content and is not suitable for children.) The series is so good, it's hard to believe it was made for TV (well, made for HBO - maybe that's less surprising). It's great, completely addictive from beginning to end, and I highly recommend it.

This is an amazing TV series. I was really captivated by it when it aired on The Movie Network. Every week, I just kept looking forward to more.

When I saw that it was on sale here at amazon for an amazing price of both for under $50.00, I had to jump on it! (Now, I am sure that it went up as that was a one day sale that I was fortunate to spot but, still! These use to be $100! EACH!!)

For those who like a little Heaven and Hell and some mind blowing storylines, with every twist and turn imaginable, check this series out!

My only grief is that there is no season 3. But a girl can still hope...

What an amazing series. The writing was excellent, the setting pervasive and the characters compelling. Why is it that series of this calliber never survive? HBO seems to be notorious for taking chances and then not truly committing to the long term sucess of their innovative series. What a shame.
