This is a fervent album by an artist who refused to waste time and album space singing about things that didn't matter. In terrific voice, Baez covers a wide swath of political and emotional ground - from a joyous "Oh Happy Day" to bitterness over what the war was doing to the people who were fighting it and fighting against it. While it is a telling dipiction of its time, "Carry It On" also serves as a reminder that in all eras there are wrongs that cannot be tolerated and triumphs that cannot go uncelebrated.
