4.0 out of 5 stars Mater's Tall Tales Jan. 8 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is a good movie. Well its not a movie, its a series of short skits. THey have shown some of them on Treehouse or playhouse disney already. My 2.5 years old sat and watched the whole thing and loved it. SO I guess that is what matter the most.

I am a little upset that is was only half the legnth of a normal kids movie for the same price though. I realize its cars, but it should have been more around the 12$-$15 range since its only 35-40 mins long.

4.0 out of 5 stars mater March 12 2012

this is funny. my fav is RESCUE SQUAD MATER. centers around Cars character Mater contains nothing objectionable for kids, although there's one brief moment when it looks like Mater has been buried. Romance is in the air for one moment in each segment when smitten twin lady cars appear again and again to flirt with Mater. Other than exposing kids to the Pixar world of movies and merchandise, there's no consumerism involved, and kids may just learn how clever the animators are to give vehicles such nuanced human personality traits. Great for showing power of imagination... and only 4 to 6 minutes each

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Funny but Very Brief Jan. 5 2011
By RobCons
Just watched this with my 4 year old and she loved it. It was funny, great animation and great characters. Just too bad that they didn't usee more of the characters from the movie.

The only real issue is that both my daughter and I said the same thing after it ended...Is that it? I didn't look closely at the back of the case when I bought it so didn't see that the running time for the 9 shorts was 38 minutes. Just when she gets into a story it ends. For the price of this DVD I was expecting more. It will definitely keep her happy until the next movie comes out but I still think it was a bit lacking in content.

3.0 out of 5 stars A brief distraction for children March 25 2013
By ErikG
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Which really shouldn't come as a surprise. There is very little of value in here for an adult audience, and other than Mater the voices are (painfully) wrong. McQueen in particular seems to be voiced by the world's worst Owen Wilson impersonator.

The stories themselves are varied and occasionally amusing: the noir one in particular has a neat sense of style. They're pretty shallow, however, with none of the background nuance or easter eggs of an actual Pixar movie.

The worst part of all this is the total run time - it's less than your typical one hour TV show sans commercials (less than 40 minutes). So while it may temporarily distract your toddler, temporary is the key word. That and after a single viewing you will have already be driven insane by Mater's "If I'm lying I'm crying!" exclamation (and its variants), which he utters at the beginning of every single short or roughly every five minutes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mater the Greater Jan. 24 2013

The episodes are funny as expected from Larry the Cable Guy. Wish Disney would do more episodes from Cars and Cars 2
