2.0 out of 5 stars Nice watch - poor LCD display Oct. 23 2009

Nice looking watch. The bold hands on the dark background with large numbers at the 12 and 6 positions made for a clean, smart display. Unfortunately the two LCD screens had a dark background with a light orange, alphanumeric display and that combination on the LCDs was nearly invisible unless viewed under bright light and from a particular angle. I returned the GW2500DB-1A watch and ordered the GW2500B-1A which has a light LCD background with dark alphanumeric display (and resin wristband).

In related news, the watch arrived and the internal battery was depleted. This was not a problem because I exposed the watch to sunlight for about 4 hours and the internal solar cell was able to recharge the battery. Also, the pointer on the left sub-dial did not register the correct function (stop watch, world time, etc.). This was easily corrected by following the Hand Home Correction procedure in the owner's manual. I live near Boston and the watch did sync easily with the time signal from Colorado which is near the extreme range of the Ft Collins signal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Concur with Jim G's review- awesome watch with one big flaw Nov. 17 2009
By Wisconsin is a dump - Published on Amazon.com
I love this watch- it is beautiful and looks amazing. Fit and finish are top notch. It will probably last forever. Has 6 band reception of atomic time signal radio stations from the USA (WWVB from Fort Collins, CO), Europe, Japan, and China. I live in Florida and it receives WWVB without any trouble. Even just sitting on my desk on the east side of the house, it receives the signal, even though Colorado is west of Florida, so the signal makes it through the house (the manual states you should place the watch near a window at night). The way to help ensure reception is to point the top of the watch towards Colorado. LED light is very bright which lights up the watch face. Metal band is of good quality and looks great. Will probably show scratches fairly easily since it is simply black finished stainless steel. However, the twin LCD displays are of the "reversed" type and are super hard to read 90% of the time. So, I am going to return it for the GW2500B-1A model, which is less expensive because it has a resin band instead of a stainless steel band. It has a regular LCD display instead of the reversed display, so it will be much more readable. This watch is a little better looking than the GW2500B-1A because it is all black with white lettering and the metal band looks great (at least until it would likely get scratched up with use). However, I need to see the LCD displays and while I knew the reversed type would be harder to read than regular LCD's, I didn't expect it to be this hard to read. I love the watch otherwise and can't wait to get the replacement! If you don't need to see the LCD's all that often, this is the best looking watch of the three in the G-Shock Aviation series. I love G-Shocks and own three G-Shocks, a Casio Pathfinder, and two Oceanus watches also (Casio's "high end" line)!

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING Sept. 24 2009

Just got this watch today and it's everything and more that I expected it would be. The watch is somewhat heavy... not really heavy, just enough to feel substantial and solid. It's 100% g-shock (durable, strong, etc) yet cool enough to wear for work. I love this watch -- it keeps totally accurate time - syncing with the atomic clock and uses solar energy to power. The only downside was the few minutes it took me to remove links from the band so I could get it to fit my wrist... not hard, just time consuming (you better have some small tools like those micro-head screwdrivers)... but once I took care of that (there are no instructions for that by the way)... I've had nothing but PURE LOVE for this watch. Another OUTSTANDING watch by Casio.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch, could be better though... Dec 3 2009

Love the watch. Bought it trough Amazon, delivered on time. Amazing functionalities!
The ligth can turn on automaticly wich is great, but the led is too poor. I think it would be great if all the digital parts would turn on, instead of just a little led in the lower part of the watch.

Nevertheless, I would by it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch! Best G-Shock I own, but could be better. Jan. 16 2011

This is an awesome watch. It really does have the look and feel of the inside of a plane's cockpit. Those of you familiar with cockpit instruments will be reminded of them whenever you look at this watch. For those of you who aren't into airplanes, this watch still looks great.

The analog time is very easy to read, much easier than any of the Ana-Digi G-Shocks I have. I really dig the 2 subdials (one tells you what mode you are in/battery life, the other displays the hour in another time zone.) I'll be going to Finland soon, so it's nice to be able to know the time there. With 2 easy button presses, you can switch the subdial with the main dial, making the main hands tell Finland time and the subdial tell your home time. Pretty cool!

Links are a bit tricky to remove, and it does not say how to do it in the manual. Take it to Macy's and tell them you bought it there and they should do it for free. Or, if you have a TINY flathead screwdriver and a thumbtack, do it yourself! The links are held together with springbars, so you won't have to take a mallet to to the watch to take out the links. [...]

I have 3 minor complaints about this watch:

1) The illumination does not light up the digital screens. Most G-Shocks use EM-lighting to make the digital screens light up in the dark. This watch does not have that. Instead, there is a small LED light near the "6" that lights up the screen of the watch. This makes the analog hands very easy to see, but does not help with seeing the digital screens at all. If you plan on using the digital screens at night (i.e.: Stopwatch, countdown timer, set an alarm) without the use of another light source, I recommend the G-300ML.

2) The orange-on-black digital screens, while looking cool, are highly unreadable in anything but direct light. Again, if you plan on relying the digital screens for serious purposes, look elsewhere. The only reason I wear this watch every day is because of the utility of having a stopwatch, timer, alarm, and world time with me whenever I need it. Truthfully, on most days I don't touch a single button on this watch. BUT IT'S THERE :)

3) This is just nitpicking, but I am confused as to why Casio decided to put WHITE letters on the bezel instead of sticking with BLACK letters, as with the GW2500B-1A. In my opinion, this watch would look MUCH better if the letters were painted black. But that's nothing some Testors Acrylic model paint and a toothpick/needle can't fix.

All in all, this is a great watch. Comfortable to wear, looks great, easy to read, easy to do all the functions, keeps excellent time due to atomic timekeeping, never have to worry about battery due to solar power, and it's G-Shock TOUGH (shock/water/electric shock/freeze/2012 resistant).
