Product Description

Get on the beat with a new hit drama. Loaded with provocative banter and a talented cast "too appealing to resist," says Glenn Garvin of the Miami Herald, CASTLE: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON is can't-miss entertainment. Rick Castle is a world-famous crime novelist whose stories come to life when a copycat killer follows his literary blueprint. Enlisted to help the NYPD stay a step ahead of the murderer, Castle realizes working with the police can also supply him with a slew of ideas for his next book. The relationship gets a little more complicated -- and a whole lot more fun -- when he is paired with the attractive Detective Beckett, who doesn't appreciate Castle's unorthodox style. Experience every witty, suspense-filled moment of the original series in this 3-disc DVD collection. Packed with never-before-seen bonus features, including a behind-the-scenes peek at the cast, this addictive series is a killer on DVD!

One of the best shows to emerge midway through the 2008-2009 TV season, Castle has a cast and a sense of humor that set it apart from the normal police procedural. Nathan Fillion plays Rick Castle, a bestselling author of pulpy crime novels who's called in to assist the New York police when a serial killer begins committing copycat murders based on situations in his books. Castle helps crack the case, then decides to kill off his longtime character and create a new one, named "Nikki Heat," and research her by shadowing Det. Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). Much to her irritation, he pulls strings with the mayor's office to embed himself in the department, and helps her solve a wide range of whodunits, including a woman drowned in a bath tub full of motor oil, another frozen and suspended at a construction site, and a corpse stuck in a clothes dryer. To alleviate the grim proceedings, Fillion is in his element as the wisecracking Castle, while adding another ray of sunshine is Castle's impossibly likeable teenage daughter, Alexis (Molly Quinn), who lives with Castle and his mom (Susan Sullivan), a former Broadway star. Castle's circle of poker buddies includes veteran TV writer-producer Stephen J. Cannell and author James Patterson playing themselves. Like many (or most) he-and-she cop shows, there's an element of "Will they or won't they…?", but the beautiful Katic keeps Castle at bay by radiating cool. Clearly she's a woman who wants to separate herself from her emotionally draining and predominantly male job, so it makes it all the more enjoyable when she momentarily steps out of that mode, such as an impromptu appearance at his book signing. Much to the relief of Fillion fans who feared their man was a show killer after the aborted runs of such shows as Firefly and Drive, Castle was renewed for a second, full season. --David Horiuchi

This is a quirky show that is fun to watch; the two characters, Rick Castle and Detective Becket have so much chemistry that you want to watch to see what they will do next. The writers throw in enough of a story that it is interesting, with dramatic moments, but you find yourself trying to solve the mystery of what happened and who did it with Castle. You will find the more episodes you watch, the more you will get into Castle's mind set, and try to solve the 'whodunit' along with him. The way the writers include Castle's teenage daughter and the issues she is dealing with, and how a single father tries to cope, and provide the guidance he needs to provide will be appealing to many age groups. His mother lives with them as well, and Susan Sullivan is incredible in this role. The cliffhanger at the end makes you go...hmmmm I wonder what will happen in season 2, just as it should. All the elements are here in this series - drama, humor, grief, sadness, all things that need to be in a hit TV show! A truly entertaining program to watch, and I highly recommend it.

What starts out as a light and funny "Moonlighting-esque" series; develops nicely into a meatier dramedy with interesting character development. The 2nd Season is shaping up just as enjoyable. Any Firefly fan should give this one a look (you'll especially enjoy the homage to Captain Reynolds in the Season Two Halloween Episode). Enjoy!

This is a great murder mystery show without all the forensic details of some of the other shows. Great humor in it as well with the dialogue between Castle and Beckett. I had to watch each episode at least 2 times as the dialogue is so fast you can easily miss some great lines. Anyone who enjoyed Nathon Fillion on Firefly will love this series as well. The great relationship the writers have scripted for Castle and his daughter Alexis gives you a wonderful soft side of Castle that you don't see otherwise. I am totally hooked on this series and can hardly wait until season 2 is on DVD as the writing and character development has only gotten better as the series continues. This purchases exceeded my expectations.

The pen is mightier than the sword! This drama about a cop and writer paired together for the sake of his research seemed a little weak as a premise when I first heard it, but as a fan of Nathan Fillion I had to try it out anyway, and boy was I glad I did.

Nathan Fillion is as funny as ever, but still able to have really good dramatic moments as an actor. He's believeable as the wiseass, the skilled writer, the detective and the caring dad. Stana Katic, who I had never heard of before is simply stunning in performance and appearance. Together the the two have a unique energy. There's always the will he/will she vibe in these shows, but this one really feels fresh and different.

If you like the actors, the premise or even just a good crime drama, I highly recommend this show.

The premise for Castle is novel...pardon the pun. And Nathan Fillion hams it up accordingly as the slightly narcissistic mystery writer. He carries the action well and the tension between him and Beckett and his relationships with his daughter and mother are both touching and fun. All around a very fun time--the writing is taut and the acting is fine.

It's like a screwball comedy with murder and mayhem! It's deceptively shallow, and incredibly deep, unbelievably sexy and wonderfully warm. A man surrounded by women but needing a deeper love than he has ever known, a love to release the pain he hides behind a smirk and throwaway charm. A woman surrounded by men but needing someone she can trust completely, who will not hurt her or smother her. Can't wait to have all the seasons! Can't wait to see Espisito and Ryan find their life mates. MJ.

We enjoyed this first season so much, I bought the whole series to Season 5 for my husband for Christmas! The plots are interesting, the characters are often quirky and the acting very good. Enjoy!
