Book Description

May 27 2010
On the wildly popular show Iron Chef America, Cat Cora uses her instincts to transform random ingredients into exciting creations on a moment’s notice. In this book, she turns her eye to some of our most popular dishes to make them faster, fresher, and lighter. These are the swift meals that Cat relies on when she comes home from work to cook for her own family: Greek-Style Nachos, Grilled Chili-Lime Flank Steak Soft Tacos, Crispy Baked Fish Stix with Mustard Dipping Sauce, Quick Chicken Curry with Peas, and Sour-Cherry-Filled Chocolate Cupcakes.

In dishes like Baked “Fried” Calamari with Marinara Dipping Sauce and Tex-Mex Tuna Casserole, Cat puts a new spin on old favorites. She updates others, tossing chipotle-spiced croutons into a Caesar salad, or replacing the usual beef in stroganoff with chicken and adding fresh tarragon. Each recipe illustrates Cat’s motto: just because a dish is a classic doesn’t mean it can’t be improved upon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Halibut Recipe!! Aug 15 2010
By btrail - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The Halibut recipe in this book is absolutely wonderful! It is very easy to follow and uses ingredients that are already stocked in my kitchen. Great for a quick meal during the week; the family thought I really spent a lot of time on it. The most important thing about this recipe and other recipes in the book is that it is very health conscience. Recipes are low fat, quick and best of all -GREAT TASTING! Cat Cora is now my favorite chef!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat Cora Helps Family Cooks Take Taste up a Notch Mar 10 2011
By Tracy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Cat Cora is well known from her status as an Iron Chef, a show that compels chefs to take unusual ingredients and combine them to create show-stopping dishes. Although it is entertaining to watch, it is far from the type of cooking that most people do in their homes. In this cookbook we see another side of Cat, a person who cooks for a family day in and day out.

As in most families, Cat goes to classic favorites over and over, but updates them with new flavors to keep the meals both interesting and family friendly. The end result is recipes that please both adults and children. This is a cookbook that cooks will reach for over and over, virtually cooking their way through from beginning to end. Highlights (so far): Chicken Soup with Coconut, Fresh Basil and Chiles, which is great paired with Cilantro Slaw with Sauteed Garlic; and Sweet Potato Clam Chowder with Bacon, served with Corn Bread. Best of all, Cat shows cooks that they can take steps to update their own families' favorites and make them new and fresh.
