Book Description

Oct 1 2011
A heartwarming tale about the importance of caring for strays.

In Billy's small town, stray cats are running wild, and there's growing pressure to get rid of them. The school bullies don't even hesitate to throw rocks at the poor creatures! So when Billy finds a wounded, starving kitten crouched in an alleyway, he has to be extra-careful to keep her hidden while he nurses her back to health.

However precious little Conga is to him, he knows his dad would take her away if he discovered her. Can Billy and his friends confront the cat abusers, convince the town of the importance of caring for abandoned animals, and find a safe haven for strays?

A new, soon-to-be-classic animal story by the author of Dog Lost.

Review

Praise for Dog Lost

"Much more than a breathless page-turner. It's a brutally honest novel depicting the world of dogfighting in a wicked light but tempering any scenes of cruelty with an entire community of positive characters. And Lee brings together her winning, motley cast, human and animal, for a wonderfully heart-rousing ending. I loved it." — Ann M. Martin, author of A Dog's Life

"A tough book, a tender book, and one I shan't forget." — Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse

"A moving, fast-paced tale [that] will appeal to fans of Shiloh." — Kirkus Reviews

2.0 out of 5 stars Painful to read Nov 12 2012
By Deborah Muldawer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
As a cat lover and avid reader, I generally adore books about cats, but this particular book made me so ill that I had to put the book down several times because I thought I was going to retch. In this town, dogs are cherished and cats are treated as disposable nuisances. The atrocities visited upon cats go far beyond neglect and hunger. Every horror imaginable is described in vivid detail, and the kinder characters seem outnumbered by this town filled with unfeeling monsters.

The ending is completely unrealistic in view of the town's virulent and inexplicable hatred toward cats. For myself, I hope that towns like this don't exist. Even though feral cats are out there, I know of many non-profit groups that work tirelessly on their behalf. And where I live, anyone treating an animal so cruelly would be prosecuted and sent to jail.

Although it's good to be aware of the feral cat problem, this book emphasizes suffering and pain, which it tries to solve with a pat ending that doesn't really fit.

Don't torture yourself or your children by buying this book. In its own way, it's just as cruel as the characters who relentlessly torment the cats.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Powerful book Feb 6 2013
By Dad of Divas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
As someone who loves cats I was interested to see what this book would be about because I abhor the idea of animal abusers and I wondered whether this book would allow for my kids to understand my passion for this area. The author brings forward an interesting array of characters that try and advocate for cats that are running stray in the main characters found. The book was well-written and truly does draw you in, however, some of the reality that the book presents is it that graphic for young readers. That being said though the book does provide a reality that many kids may not realize is out there which I do commend. There will be times when you read this book and you may cringe you may want to turn away, but I encourage you to read onto see what happens to these individuals that are abusing animals. I would encourage you to read this first before your children to make sure that it is huge appropriate for them and that they can handle the situations that are addressed in the book itself.

2.0 out of 5 stars Brought my child to tears. Jan 7 2012
By Windflower Waters - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
My ten year old daughter absolutely loves cats, they are the center of her world. She reads every book about cats that she can get her hands on so Cat Found was aimed right at her sweet spot. The part of the book which describes one after another examples of how people killed strays in very mean and awful ways. She was in tears and gladly let me take the book away.
