Gerald at his best!, Nov 6 2004
By W. Ramsey "jonas1685" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Catch Me a Colobus (B Format) (Paperback)
So, what do you think when you hear about a Duchess who collects money for charity? That she is old, tweedy, smells of spaniels. That is what Gerald thought until he met the melting eyed beauty to whom he eagerly gives all his money, and discovers that she was the tweedy duchess.Hmm.. The encounters in the zoo are hilarious, apes get loose, tigers get pregnant and women fall by the droves for a handsome zoo employee. It is endearing, funny and occasionally outrageous and Gerald's language is so evocative, you imagine the scene, however implausible and cannot stop laughing for it.

One of Durrells animal collecting exhibitions., Aug 4 2000

A journey to west africa to collect endangered species for his zoo in Jersey where he preserved animals against extinction. Durrell funded his zoo greatly with his writing. This is one of his books describing the trials and tribulations of finding and catching animals in the wild. A good read for what it is.
