Caught Looking -- Anthology -- Edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel and Alison Tyler, May 15 2007
This review is from: Caught Looking: Erotic Tales Of Voyeurs and Exhibitionists (Paperback)
When did you discover you wanted to look, peek, or straight-up watch? Was it your first sneaky glimpse up, or down, a teacher's dress, a skin magazine you smuggled into your bed at night, or a scene in a movie that made you wetter or harder than you expected and sent you searching for more? Caught Looking is an anthology of 20 tales all about watching and being watched. The authors have captured the essence of what it is that takes voyeurism and exhibitionism that step beyond looking; it takes you beyond the often by yourself sterile page or DVD frame view to the dirty sense of active participation.
In Radclyffe's "A Flash of Gold", we are close enough to hear the voyeur whisper, "Come in her mouth." The standard outdoor parking lot scene is ramped up in "The Stars Fell Down" by Kristina Wright when she adds the extra ingredient of an illicit affair and being witnessed by a co-worker. "Command Performance" by Teresa Noelle Roberts takes us on a first person trip inside the peep show window where it turns out, everyone is watching everyone.
In Caught Looking, Tyler, the exhibitionist, and Bussel, the voyeur, have delivered a set of stories from some of the most well-known and respected writers of erotica including, M. Christian, Shanna Germain, Sage Vivant, and Thomas S. Roche; stories that take us inside the worlds and minds of the characters. Close enough to see the sheen of sweat on straining bodies, absorb the smell of want, hear the gasp of penetration, and share the exchange of someone else's sex and energy.

Caught Looking: looking back...., Dec 27 2006

..not a story in the book failed to arouse.
I don't consider myself necessarily "wired" for voyeurism/exhibitionism but on the advice of a knowledgeable friend I got this primer and learned delightfully that this is one kink all modern people share - perhaps most especially urbanites. 99% of the people we see each day disappear forever the minute we pass them on the street and so the anonymity and the perpetual gaze are somehow baked in.
Breakdown - my fav's: "Sharing The Perfect Cock." Completely unexpected and torrid. A great climax to the book. Again, not a single dud - but these are the ones I go back to in my head. I really loved "The Changing Room" and "The Poet, Dying." "The Key" was *steaming*. Quite a few brought enough blush to my cheeks that I became conscious of being in the company of fellow subway riders.
Hot enough keep the pages turning. Good enough to turn them again.

A kink of mass appeal, July 19 2009

Watching and being watched is perhaps the most common kink. It is, by far, my favorite. And I think that most people will find a story or three, at the least, in this collection that speaks to a few of their own inner fantasies. I frequently had to put the book down to let my own mind wander to what I would do in similar situations and reach for my nearest......hmm. Can I say that here? ;) Well, nearest toy, let's put it that way.
I personally only found two stories to be lacking for my taste, but I think that's a fairly common thing with anthologies. You simply cannot please everyone with every single piece in the book. That being said, I found a much higher ratio of "Holy crap that's hot" to "Meh" in this anthology than most others.
It's not all about threesomes. There are some who are performing in some way, some who are knowingly being watched and some unknowing. There are 2 lesbian stories and 1 gay male story. Tales of sluts and prudish wall-flowers alike. I frequently found myself envious of the characters in the stories, to be honest.
I'm picky with my erotica; I don't like flowery euphemisms or 60 ways to says "cock". I like a happy medium between the no-build-up-straight-cut-to-sex and the so-subtle-its-pretentious, and nearly all of these stories fall wonderfully in that happy medium.

Very Good Erotica Anthology- as to be expected, Sep 10 2007

I really enjoyed this book. Not quite as much as She's on Top or He's on Top because somehow in this book being a voyuer means almost always ending up in a threesome here. I'd like to see maybe a boy next door spying on his neighboor girl in the sequel Hide and Seek. My favorites in this were 'Curtain Call' and 'X-Ray Specs'. I can't wait to check out Hide and Seek also by Rachel Kramer Bussel. Also, forthcoming by her are Sex and Candy, Yes, Ma'am and Yes, Sir.
