Product Description

Review

For those who have devoted themselves to reawakening Earth Goddess worship, this book will be like coming home, bringing together a multitude of ideas on living with honor, insight and great love. For those who've shied away from earth centered ritual and worship, this book is a map which provides a route of safety through unknown territory. Celebrating the Great Mother is a well-written book with hauntingly beautiful artwork and lovely illustrations throughout, which takes one on a journey of honoring the earth, our families, and our relations with all beings. A journey well worth taking. -- Karin Kaplowitz Talking Leaves

The ideas, suggestions, and activities collected here bring children into rituals that celebrate seasonal cycles and help reclaim the spiritual roots of today's modern holidays. -- Feminist Bookstore News

This is a handbook for those of us--regardless of religious or spiritual beliefs--who want to share our love of the earth with our children, who know how important this is for the future of our planet, and who use some ideas on how to do it. -- The Wellspring Guide

Book Description

Adults have a wide array of books to help explore earth-based spirituality. But what if they want to include their children? Here is a handbook to help parents, caregivers, teachers, and counselors create meaningful spiritual experiences that will inspire children of all ages. The ideas, suggestions, and activities collected here show how to bring children into rituals that celebrate seasonal cycles and help reclaim the spiritual roots of today's modern holidays. With surprisingly little effort, earth-centered activities and rituals can be incorporated into simple daily routines.

Part 1, "Handbook for Earth-Connected Parenting," gives techniques for developing a child's inner wisdom and sense of the sacred: dream journals, visualization, Tarot play, talismans, and interactions with the natural world

Part 2 is a guide to the specific seasonal festivals, and offers a comprehensive collection of practical and enjoyable ways to celebrate the sacred days of our ancestors. Make a bean rune divination system, gather smudge sticks, grow grass pots, assemble a "dream pillow," create altars the authors offer easy-to-follow suggestions.

Includes suggested reading and resource sections for locating additional information and materials for creative projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfying, Jan 18 2003
By
Sarah "milkmaiden" (North Wales, Pa USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Celebrating Great Mother (Paperback)
I absolutely love this book! I turn to it again and again for inspiration for myself as well as for my 3 year old son. We have enjoyed making many of the crafts together and reading the stories, I like that it presents the information in a very reader friendly way and it is very organized. A wonderful resource for Pagan as well as Non-Pagan families and just as wonderful for those without children. I personally find the activities very satisfying for myself and actually bought the book BEFORE I had my son.. This is usually the first book from our (very extensive library) that I reach for when I am searching for a way to honor the season, or looking for a good craft, The crafts are very simple and do not involve a lot of preparation, or money! Simply Very Satisfying!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just for Parents, Jun 21 2003
This review is from: Celebrating Great Mother (Paperback)
I actually bought this book not knowing it was directed towards parents. I was in search of a book with ideas on how to celebrate the year that were more Nature and Earth-oriented than the "common" Pagan ceremonies. I am also a pantheist who prefers not to incorporate the worship of deities into my holidays. Although the authors refer to the Earth as the Goddess (which I do not do), the book is amazingly easy to sympathize with and embrace. I particularly like their idea of the talking stick for use during the Winter to help shed the stress of being so cooped up. I heavily recommend this book to anyone in search of Nature-oriented ways to celebrate the holidays and especially to Pagans in search of creating their own traditions.

This review is from: Celebrating Great Mother (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book for any earth loving parent who would like ideas for celebrating the seasons and respecting the earth with their family. It includes many crafts and activities to do with children of all ages, and would even make a great read if you are not a parent.
